Want to rmove my interior.

I pretty much want to strip out all the dead weight I can to make my rx7 a race tuned set up, but I started taking out the carpet a lil bit and everything looked like it was gonna be a pain in the ***.

I guess just from being old the stuff under the carpet has kinda stuck to the metal (not sure if that's to help with noise and heat or what), does anyone know an easy way to get all that stuff off or is it pretty much just hammer and a scraper?

Does anyone have any pics of a stripped interior just so I have an idea before hand of what I'm in for? And someone told me that it's bad to do this because of all the heat that will come directly into the passenger compartment from in front in the engine bay, is this true?
One last thing, aftermarket seats. Should I keep the stock seat rails? And what is a really cheap but fairly comfortable aftermarket seat?

Dunno about seats, but my project car is totally gutted as this point as I'm hunting down all the rust before I build it up as a street car. I'll attach a pic I took the other night of it after most of the sound deadedning tar was removed. I used a old chisel and a hammer, most of it was so brittle it came out in big chunks. the tar (if you would call it that, its more of a plastic) I have removed so far totaled 15 lbs give of take a few ounces. If you want a pic of a different angle or something let me know.

Look familiar Sean? I used dry ice and a mallet. Least amount of damage that way. On my first car I used an air chisel and punched many holes in teh floorboard.

personally. i dont think removing the material was worth it. if it wasnt a race car, i would of left it in. it couldnt of been THAT much weight, atleast when you look at all the effort thats behind it.

unless u have 2 7's, 1 stripped out 4 racing and 1 mint daily driver. U could use some of the stripped parts in your daily driver.

I helped a friend out down in NC when he stripped his. We just waited till it was about 40 out and took a cold chisel to the stuff and it came off in chunks. I want to do mine so I'll just wait till winter when it gets into the 30 up here. Actually I don't think I wanna be outside doing this when its 30 out, oh well I guess I'll just do it the hard way.

Its like 25lbs, and even with out dry ice (which I wished I had used) its only a few hours of work. Weight savings wasn't my main concern anyway, I want to find and fix all the rust I possibly can. and believe me I'm glad I pulled that stuff out, I found quite a bit hiding under it. worth all the effort IMO
