Oh ****, man I feel for you. I got a taste of what you're going through June 3rd on the way to the Iowa rotary meet. I had a choice of rear ending a nearly stopped semi at 60 mph, or taking to the grass on the right hand shoulder. Took the grass and ended up taking out the front air dam on the widebody.
Don't give up, with the skills you've shown building the car in the first place, I'm positive you can repair this damage. V8 or not, you've been an inspiration to many on what can be done modding a 1st gen, now you have a chance to build it even better.
Good luck with the rebuild, keep us posted.

With the cage and rear end I probably have over 200 hours in the car from the firewall back. It would easily take 4 months and over $3000 to build the car again with the parts I have. Compared to 6 weeks and less than $1000, it's smarter to replace the front clip. If the rear is tweaked the car will probably be a total loss. Time will tell.

This is pointed straight at the car...
And here's how the car looks right now.
Not bad for 6 hours of work. Now all the hard stuff.
And since I haven't posted it yet, here's the angle I backed into the wall at...
