ok, at the risk of being called a wise ***, i'll actually answer this. It gives the middle range of the throttle much better response. You mash the gas, its open all the way and off you go. I have a writup on my site of how to do it, but Its down for about an hour, cause I'm uploading a newer version of the whole site, so give it about an hour then go to www.slegers.com/sites/sean and go to writups and then the secondaries one.

And so on and so forth

Actually, I was going to do that to my 84 SE, but I can't find the carburator. Someone said it was under the "big blue round thing" and that it had "4 holes that went really deep" - but for the life of me, I can't find the big blue round thing...

LOL!!!! Anyway, SOME ONE GET A STICKY FOR THESE repetive "mechanical Secondaries" SUBJECT BEFORE WE ALL GET our boring non-blow-through NIKKI's and throw them in the trash with our mechanic's wire to make them mechanical 2ndaries on them satified with the power increase but the consistent nagging on the forum about how to do it. With all due respect though, I think there should be a sticky on this to hopefully curb the repeat posting. Just a FRIENDLY sugguestion, in a drunkin state. Don't take this post personally, I am drinking.

Max, Will has got that carb jetted and tuned very well. It isn't going to get any better than it is. My suggestion is not to mess with it

BTW, if you're interested in learning about your carburator:

This whole thing is starting to **** me off. I spent alot of time and effort on that write-up, and none of you guys point any newbes to it, yet you all got your info from it. 82transam even had the ***** to do a write-up on his site, yet he knows nothing about carbs!
It's in the archives.

Well don't point Max to it, because he doesn't have a Nikki, or even any secondaries for that matter lol.

Sterling, that's the way of the internet (and this forum)... shitloads upon shitloads of "experts" on all kinds of topics. Reader beware. You should see the debate on the Canadian forum, about a so called "expert" forum member who has a website (and advises on the forum) advising people to overheat their engines in order to flush out their cooling systems LOL.

BTW, while you of course initiated your write-up, you hardly invented the idea of converting the Nikki to mechanical secondaries (which has been around for a lot longer than this forum). It's not exactly 'your' idea to lay claim to

On the topic, I personally have not heard much good regarding this procedure, with respect to stock Nikki carbs. It seems to be very popular around here lately though. I don't have any experience with it, and I don't know one way or the other, so I'm not going to go recommending it.

whoa, I was just trying to help us visual learners out. It wasn't till a friend helped me that i understood what your were saying. It seems most people here are the same, before my writeup everyone was directed to yours and had numerous questions about it. I don't see the need to rip on me. I'm no expert but I have been working on tractors (all carbed) for years, so I know what I'm doing. If it really pisses you off that much I'll just delete the damn thing. jeez.

...This is what I got when I went to edit/delete my previous post.

82transam, I don't want you to remove anything.
I was just looking for a little credit, and I felt I was being passed.

SilverRocket, I wouldn't be such an ******* as to suggest that I invented that mod- I would hope you knew me better than that by now.
It also demonstrates to me that you did'nt bother to read the damn write-up, either, as I make a point of acrediting a handful of people with helping me with my facts, ect. I also explain in that post how I had come up with the accellerator pump mod all by myself, only to find the volume increasing part of the mod in an old Holley book that was later given to me.

I guess I got a lil pissy because I always make sure I lay all my cards out on the table and give credit where credit is due.
That AP mod took me two weeks to get right!

I did'nt want credit for the mods- I wanted credit for the write-up!

That's all, and I don't wanna talk no more about it. I've already made a jackass of myself regarding it.

I shoulda said; "Keep up the good work, guys. It's what we're all here for."

That's very nice of you, but not what I meant!!! I don't mean you should do that! I just wanted more people here to know my write-up is here. Please put your work back the way it was!

I saw a list of links regarding mechanical secondaries, and my write-up wasn't in it. It pissed me off, and I took it out on you.
I'm sorry. Just put your site back the way you had it, O.K?

This is what I get for opening my big fat mouth!!!

dammit sterling what do want of me I ain't changing it back now. I don't care, i understand you just want credit where its due, saying I know nothing about carbs kinda pissed me off, but then again I really don't care that much since I hate carbs anyway. anyway, its all good. the site stays teh way it is. enough of this
wankel FD rx7: you should do the mod, it improves the mid range quite a bit, and really gives teh car some kick, that combined with a K&N air filter was quite an improvment over stock IMO

Sterling, I gotcha. I did read your write-up, a while ago.

You're not serious right? You're joking?

HE HAS A DELLORTO!!!!!

THEY DON'T HAVE SECONDARIES!!!!

Why are you advising that he should convert his non-existent secondaries to mechanical? His question had nothing to do with stock - his car is nowhere close to stock.

See why I know that you obviously haven't read the thread?
