Mazda Rx-7 Stamped 4/78

Just got my hands on a really nice Mazda Rx7 dated 4/1978 Assuming its a 79 based on the forum it says made in Japan pretty sweet little ride based on what the owner says it has original 123k miles but has been sitting since 1991 under a cover.

Any tips ?
I was told the Ole ATF trick would be good to clean her out. Carbs gonna be removed tonight and soaked.

Whats the worth on something like this. I can post pictures.

ATF is bad for these engines. Don't use it.

Why are you going to remove the carb? Doesn't it work anymore?

Car has been sitting since 1994 , has dirt dust and more. I pulled the bottom plugs and sprayed some carb cleaner and some seafoam in it. Got some fire shooting out but no start yet.

"Got some fire shooting out..." Sounds awesome - bit where is the fire shooting out from? That's usually not a good thing unless you operate a flamethrower for a living.

Also I don't recommend the ATF trick because it will remove all the good carbon which may be the only thing helping you with compression on these old, high mileage engines. I did it on my 84SE and regretted it for the remainder of its life as it would smoke incessantly from oil making it past the oil control rings after the carbon was cleared...

Worth is whatever someone is willing to pay for it, as early cars are worth a bit more to someone who knows what history it has for Mazda, otherwise not any more attractive to most buyers.

Had fire shooting out the lower plug holes i removed them when i was checking to see if anything else was in there. "Water or Things that shouldnt be in the rotary chamber."

Seems to not get enough umpth to start as is with all plugs in.
Starting with maybe exhaust being clogged?
Under the hood was rough with rat items.. Maybe there was a nest made in the exhaust.

Mazda started production of the 1979 model cars in February of 1978, so the 1979 model year was a long one. every Rx7 was built at the main plant in Hiroshima.

Time to replace the water pump among many other things. Would like to see pics of the car if you have them. Honestly, if its been sitting 20 plus years, its going to need a total restoration. Drop that gas tank and have it boiled out. Clean or replaced the fuel lines. Replace all of the filter and fluids, replace the brakes and tires, replace the vacuum lines and coolant hoses, rebuild the carb, check the engine for compression, etc. It will be a fun ride along the way but its not going to be cheap.
