One theory is that the Japanese have trouble saying "six",so they skipped to 7....seriously.

R100
RX-2
RX-3
RX-4
RX-5 Cosmo
RX-7
RX-8

Of course, that doesnt explain Mazda's 626 or MX-6,so who knows?

how about Rotary eXport. as in outside of japan we have the rx-* models. in japan they have the infini, savannah, luce, ect.

you can take the rotary experiment idea and forget it altogether.

RX stands for Rotary Experimental, i do belive. Who knows why they skipped the RX-6, one theory is that they did so bad with the RX-5 and because the japanese are a very superstitious people (spell that right?) they called the new model RX7, because of the 7. 7 is a "velly lucky numbel" for Asian people!

Ah, who knows really, do a search on the net, and bring us back the results!

The REPU came out before the Cosmo, so the Cosmo could have been called RX-6. Of course only one country got the REPU, so meh. It's too bad because the REPU is very cool minitruck.

Adding on to that list RX-01 ... hopefully they'll get it out to production someday looks really sweet. you can download the clip for it somewhere on the net if you haven't seen it

i have a book by this jack yamuguchi guy (i think thats his name, i don't feel like digging it out) but anyways, its all about rx-7s and he said the reason they didn't make an rx-6 is because of what was stated earlier, they can't pronounce six very well. but that doesn't really make sense either because didn't they call the rx-7 the savannah in japan??? And then the mx6 and the 626 come into play....those silly japanese

Actually the Rx-6 was the REPU. And ROKU is six
well that doesn't make sense, the repu came out in 1974...and the rx-5 didn't come out til like 76 i think. although it could be because of what models were released in other countries...i guess

I think the MX-6 was called MX-6 in Japan but I don't remember a 626. I thing it was the capella(thats the first thing that popped into my head when I first saw a 626 in the states) iirc.

This list, whether it is correct or not, shows the MX-6 was in Japan, but the 626 had a different name. Capella is on the list so that is probably it.

There's way too many Mazda's with 6 in their name to be thinking that the forefathers avoid six because they can't say the word.

It's the letter "L" that gives them fits ! That's why when they got all the munchkins together to film the Wizard of Oz that per the casting director none could be oriental.

"Forrow the yerrow brick road" just wasn't happening.

Any Mazda cars with an L besides the Great Rittle Car ?
