So in reality they are both foreign engines. Talk about being

Anyway, I still say that the diesels would work well. Either that or can you say Renesis? It would have better fuel economy and better performance, and you get to have fun with a 9000 rpm redline. Probably a VERY close fit to the 1st gen engine bay.

I think the pinto motor is a "german ford"

Is there any more information about the toyota trans adapter for the 4G63?

Is searched for quite a while and all I got was dead links.
If you find anything be sure and post a link here. I have a 82 starlet in need of a drivetrain.

Edit.....Just rechecked some of the links

The "Pinto" motor was never available as a 2.3l. Largest displacement was 2000cc, which is also the most common/popular size. (It was also 1300 and 1600, IIRC) It dates back to the 60's or so.

Later the engine had a Cosworth head stuck on it, and later still that engine was turbocharged, and this is the engine found in the Cosworth Sierra and Escort Cosworth, and has been used by Ford factory rally teams up until fairly recently.

You are thinking of the "Lima" engine, which was mostly available as a 2.3l, although there was a debored 2.0l (mid-80s Rangers) and a stroked 2.5l (late 90's Rangers). It dates back to the 70's, and was an engine upgrade for the Pinto and US-market Ford Capri, and later was the base engine after Ford USA stopped certifying the 2000cc "Pinto" engine for US sale.

Go figure that one out - Ford didn't want to certify the 2000cc engine, they figured it was better to take US-built 2.3l "Lima" engines, ship them off to Germany for installation into Capris, and then ship them back here for sale.

2.0 lima was pretty common on a pinto's, but rare on rangers
and even the volvo 2.3L is alomost identicle

ive always heard that the 2.0 limas were near indeructable, but im not sure, ive only ever worked on 2.3's (one was a 2.3 pinto, just put a mustang 2.3 in)

edit: year i forgot that it was originally a 2.0 and later bored out to 2.3
but all 3 are super similar and easy to interchange

The 2.0l "Lima" was only found in Rangers. The Pinto was long gone by the time Ford made the 2.0l version of the "Lima".

There never was a 2.3l "Pinto" engine. Ever.

Once again you prove that you have no clue at all...

the 2.0 was a lima
and the 2.3 was a swap, we had a spare laying around, bolted righ tin

let me find a link

edit:
"The "Lima" SOHC engine strongly resembled the earlier 2000, but it was actually a completely new design. It so strongly resembled the 2000 that some say that the only significant differences between the two were that the Lima is slightly larger, and has four cam bearings instead of three. The engine was developed in the USA and was first used in the Pinto. Strangely, Ford moved the entire engine plant from Lima, Ohio to Brazil early in the production run"

hey Eville140

that 2.3 ford motor came off from a ford escort?? and knowing it's FWD, all that was suppose to be done to transform it RWD was removing the FWD shifter linkages right?
