need help with ignition switch wire-up

i have a 1980 rx-7 that needs a new ignition switch. i bought another one from the junkyard but it came off a 83 rx-7. the ignition in my rx-7 nhave one extra wire, and i can't figure out what wire it is. for the other wires can i just cut and connect according to the colors of the wire? (i.e. red - red, b/w - b/w etc.....)

I don't know about the early style ign switch, but I know if you look on the back of the 83 one you will see that the wires are labeled what they are(ACC, BAT, etc etc), They are there in small print next to each wire. You may want to look close and see if the 80 switch has the same. just a thought

Consult the SA and FB's electrical diagrams to ensure that its ok to eliminate the extra wire.
