Matching Port Job Question

Hey guys. I am owner of a 1985 RX-7 GSL. I am looking at some templates that I want to do to my 12A. I am looking at getting the Mazdatrix ones. I have seen the Pineapple ones and I might get them oce there site is up but we will see. Really I want to get some advice on what the intake and exhaust should be matched like to get it to run good. First of all I am still going to do some minor street driving so keep that in mind but it is going to be a "fun" car so it is ok if it is not perfect. I want to do a standard bridge port to get enough power and that BRAT sound but I don't know what to match it with for the exhaust side. Is it good to go with the Street or Race? I am surprised they don't sell them as a complete kit so everything works together. Any how please give me as much advice as you can on this because it is my first one and I want it to work good. Thanks in advance and keep it going round and round.

If you go bridge, get the race, if you go street, get the street.

It's BRAP, noobie. Not those alien-looking dolls you see far too often these days. Or those shoes from the '80s. Or the Subaru from the '70s.

What power band do you want? How much low end? How much high end? More of one than the other? Use the answers to these questions to figure out how much port timing you need/want.

Well that is some very useful advice. I am looking to do some track/drift events with it but still drive it on nice days. Really I don't think that a street port is what I want because it is not wild enough. It will be ok but I want some power and really want some torque but hey it is a wankel. So I figure I will go with the bridge to get more power and I can over come not having torque. But it you guys have more advice that can help me out that would be great. I am for sure a noobie with re-building rotary's but I am willing to learn. So keep the advice comeing. Thanks.

if you are going to go with the bridge you have to get the harder stat. gears maybe get the side of the rotors machined. i have heard that a bridge is not the greatest daily driver because it doesnt like to be at any rpm for a long time and your power band will be 5000-9000rpm i believe. a agessive street port will give you lots of power without taking the car to 9000rpm and building the motor to handle 9000revs . 4000-7500rpm(maybe 8000rpm) is your powerband on a agressive streetport and drivable will be great

If you do a 1/2 bp on the secondaries and find one of Rotary Engineering old dual DCD carb set ups, you can keep the streetability and still have the upperend power band. As far as exhaust porting goes, if you bp, then go with the race port or match the exhaust port to the TII ones.

When I had the Mikuni on my 1/2 bp, I couldn't cruise below 3k rpm without doing the herky jerky. With the DCDs, I can cruise at 1500 rpm, even though my idle is set higher.

Hey guys thanks for the information. I maybe changing my mind for a 1/2 bridge or an agressive street port. I am thinking about wanting to have a lower power band and also I guess what little torque I would be losing might be nice to have. I have only seen bridge and street port templates is there somebody that sells like a 1/2 bridge or an agressive street port. I am new at the whole porting yourself and I just want to do it right and have a good experience. So keep some advice and info coming and thanks in advance.
