Unhappy Master cyl disaster!

Well my car has been parked for about a week..i'm figuring out the timing and relocating a few things... Well I got in her today and went to try and start her up...man what's this slippery crap on the freshly painted, oh wait freshly peeling floorboards? Oh well i put my foot on the clutch and SLAM it hits the deck and stays there.. my master Cyl leaked a bunch of fluid into the car. what a mess.. Does anyone know what a remanufactured unit runs for? I have a spare on a parts car but if i have it off i might as well replace it.

I just bought a new clutch master and slave on "Mazdatrix.com". I also bought the braided steel slave hose. Shipped the total was around $118.

Without the hose it would be about $100 for both.

You should be able to get the master and slave with Lifetime Limited Warranties from Autozone for like $70 total for the pair.

Hell, I got a rebuild kit and did it myself for $35 Canadian... thats less than $30US.

It's dirt easy too. A trained monkey could do it.

Don't worry about training your monkey and just get one at your local autoparts store for $50-$60 and a lifetime warranty.

O'Reilly had the best deal on the slave cylinder ($19), Autozone on the master ($49 IIRC). They both do price matching, so choose your poison.

Also, I have been told by people far more experienced than myself...always replace both...if one is bad, so is the other - or it will be shortly.

As for peeling paint, etc. you have my sympathy...brake fluid is truly nasty stuff in wrong place.

damn mmasid, that is a huge *** signature. You should probably make it smaller. The moderators will probably tell you the same thing.

Actually I did rebuild both when I did mine too, but I was on a VERY tight budget at the time, so I did the master about 2 weeks later. I think the master was actually a little cheaper... $29 CDN sounds about right...

I wish I had access to all the part stores you folks do south of the border.
We only have a handfull of big part stores up here.

Once I get my 7 to crank I'm planning on getting both from AutoZone.
