Making RB filter fit

to run the rb filter that came with the dells do you have to remove the beehive and chop the fill tube to make it work? its a 6in k&n filter with the rb pans. also, do you leave the horns on when you install the filter?

Not sure about the beehive but you don't need to chop anything to get it in there.
Yes you leave the horns on or you won't get good flow into your carb and it will not perform well.

i have a nice fmoc setup i just pulled off a low mile 82. i'll sell you everything you need except for the lines for $50 + shipping. ( you'll also need new crush washers and o rings)
search the archives, there should be a bunch of write ups.
its very very easy swap.
pm me if your interested and i'll send you pics.

Good advice to get rid of it, but I don't think you have to modify it or remove it to fit the filter. The way I put the filter on is I put the long studs into the filter base nice and tight, because you can't tighten them once the filters in place. Then I take the filter and make sure the foam is going to tuck under the base cover when I insert it. I insert it by holding it vertically close to the oil filer and slowly slide it down over the long mounting studs turning it on its side as it goes on. The studs may scrape the metal mesh inside the filter a bit but thats all and its ok. Don't force it. Once its over the screws and horizontal I just push home and hold it tight to the base by placeing the top cap over it and pushing it one until it bottoms on both the studs. Make sure the foam is tucked in all around then put the nuts on finger tight and keep holding the top on and tight with a socket all the way down.

Its definitely a technique you have to try a few times to get right.
