Making a custom harness, condensor and alt. regulator Q

So, I am making a custom harness for my "racecar", and I was wondering about the condensor and regulator connections.

According to my searches, the condensor wire coming off the distributor should go to the + side of the coil, is that right?

For the regulator, I heard you need a diode for the alternator connector to keep the battery from discharging, or some such.
I used this "diode/connector" before, but the diode got hot enough to burn a hole in the electrical tape, and part of the wire, but the diode still looks fine, no discoloration. Do I just need a bigger diode, or more circuitry? Below is a schematic..

BTW, where is the stock diode located? Maybe I could use it...

Okay, do I even need this diode thing if I am not using the warning light?
Anyways, here is my updated schematic. I got a s5 alt. around the shop someplace...

Anybody?

After some more searches, I found that this wire I'm talking about goes to the choke and check relay. Do I need this wire to be connected? Does it serve some function for the regulator?
This is strictly a "bare bones" setup, I just need the alternator to charge properly and that's all. No warning lights or anything. I think I don't need to connect this wire, but I want to make sure...

if you are going to put diodes in place, you need to get a diode bank that can handle the power. cheap way is to take the voltage/current draw, and divide it by the diodes capacity. then take that number and buy that many diodes, wire them in parrallel and you have a homemade diode bank. (actually might be better if you bought a coulple of extras and built in a safety margin.

How do I wire it up, though? Right now it's disconnected, I only have a wire going to the IGN +12 and the other wire on the connector (for the C&C relay and warning light) is disconnected. Do I need it for proper regulator function?
