12a Questions, What is it?!

first off im callin it the mystery valve...What does it do? Should something be connected to it?

Next up, where is this oil leak coming from? Its been there since i bought the car, its directly below the carb/manifold along the base of the engine.

thanks much for your help

The first picture is the bleeder valve to the clutch master cylinder.Nothing connects to it,unless you are bleeding air from the clutch hydraulics.
The oil leak could be many things.Judging from the location, its likely the oil metering pump.Theres a little O-ring you replace under the OMP base.Easy and cheap. The oilpan gasket can also leak, but it appears to be higher up than that.Pressure wash the area (and the rest of the engine for good measure)really good before starting.

bleeder port for the slave cyclinder

thats the bleeder port for the slave cylinder, don't open it unless you are bleeding the clutch system! if you have a leak that is coming past the rubber boot thats attached to it and aimed to the rear of the car, then your slave cyclinder is bad, check your clutch fluid to see if its low. if not then the leak is probably from your oil filter or wahtnot.

sorry didn't look at the 2nd photo, and BTW Steve is right.

The top picture looks very much like your clutch slave cylinder. Its a bleeder to remove air from the system, and it doesn't need anything attached to it, except maybe a little rubber nipple.

Oh, how typing 'nipple' makes me laugh.

Oh and that second picture looks like a blob, I don't know where that is.

I think the question should be, should you be doing an engine swap when your not even sure what a slave cylinder looks like?

Kidding.

Good luck on your swap, hope it goes better than mine.

If it is the OMP that's leaking, a gasket is like $2 from Mazda, and to change it is only 2 10 mm bolts... tkes about 5 minutes to swap, you domn't necessarily need to do it.,.. but for how cheap it is to fix the oil leak... why not?
