Major problems...

I was out just driving and i hit it hard off the line and as i shift into 3rd i see all my warning lights go on and the heat rising... I shut down and coasted to pullover right away, pop the hood see that my alt. belt is missing (explaining the sudden drop on my volt meter) and that I have a minor rad hose leak. Also there was no oil pressure registering on my guage. I fixed the rad hose leak it just needed to be tightened and Im going to get a new belt for the alt first thing in the morning. My concern is could I have blown the oil pump? It wasnt in the best shape to begin with. Any ideas on what happened?

no oil pressure

From what you mentionined happened, I don't beleive their is any relation to why
you are not registering oil pressure. Check your connector at the sending unit and see if it is still atttached. What makes you think that your oil pump was in bad
shape to begin with? rx7doctor

already checked the connector... its fine

well the readings on the guage are no where close to where they should be stock... i know this doesnt mean anything cuase they are notoriously off by a lot. But also my car overheats while going at 70+ on the highway... all of my other cooling components are fine and checked out great. I was going to eventually replace the oil pump but just hadnt got around to it yet.

What weight and brand oil are you using? As far as your overheat at 70 mph, where is the
gauge reading at that time? rx7doctor

Go to valvoline 20w-50, remember that "The big Q stands for Parafin Wax!"

What is your belt set up? At 70 plus you could be slipping a belt, causing the failure.

Replace your t-stat with the oem temp for starters. Also may have restriction in radiator not
allowing enough flow. Remember once you are above 35mph you have ram air going thru the radiator to cool it down. Check also for excessive debri in front of the radiator like leaves and things. Last when you get done, pick up some water wetter made by redline, it's
a good investment. It allows the coolant to do a better job of carrying away the heat. rx7doctor

About 4 weeks ago i flushed out my rad using something i bought at autozone and filled using a 50/50 mixture and about 3/4 a bottle of water wetter. My t-stat is also brand new (160 degrees). I've only taken it on the highway once since then and it was for about 10 miles... she ran upto halfway on the temp guage. Like i said all my cooling elements are working fine... i even had my friend who rebuilt the engine for me recheck all my work when it still was running hot. The fact that it only overheats when going on the highway at sustained high rpms is what makes me believe its the oil pump thats not providing the adequate lubrication in turn cooling. I just want to be pretty certain before i take out the engine. What do you think?

You need to do an oil pressure test. Still do not think it is causing problem. Get the oem
temp t-stat back in it. Remember the t-stat is just a regulatory valve that controls the flow of water. If it is too cold of t-stat, during hot weather it will stay open too long and not allow the water to stay in the radiator to cool down properly.
also during winter your heater will not work. Also still recommend 2 things, have someone that has infrared temp gauge to read actual temp versus what gauge reads and get flow checked at radiator shop. Belt, just get good quaility one from place like napa. rx7doctor
