Major Problem Helphelphelp!

G'day,

I'm currently the owner of an RX7 s2 1982..
I go to replace the seals around the sunroof and also one of the hinges..... ask around.. aparently into australia, the S2 didn't come with a sunroof??? so now i'm stuck for parts!!!

I was wondering if there was any alternate thing i could do... as my car is sitting at the painters, with no sunroof... and i'm unable to put it in!!!!

I can't have it sitting there forever argh!!

I was wondering if i could get it pinned down where my car is actually from!? Japan? UK? Eek!

Cheers,
ben

Yeah i have, and they have some parts there that i'm after... but i don't know if there is a difference between the LHS(driver sitting on the left) or RHS version of the RX7 S2 (1982)...
I was also looking at getting a center console(ciggie lighter n stuff) from them but again, i don't know if there is a difference :-/

email them and ask them. I seriously doubt that there would be a difference for that kinda stuff...

what hinge are you missing? Just the hold down tab on the right- or left-front side and the attachment bolts?

Well i'm not to sure if it's a hinge.. the dude just gave me the bit and told me to get a new one :-/

Basically it works the sunroof rides along the railling... then gets to the broken bit.. rides up it, and gets shoved into the lock position... When i get home from work (in approx. an hour) i'll take some photos of it, and post.

I've tried a couple of wreckers and they say good luck finding bits :-(

Oh. No 1st gen factory sunroof I know of rides along a railing, it just has 2 metal tabs at the front and a screw-type lifting arm at the back. Goes up a few inches, or gets removed entirely.

Sounds like you've got an aftermarket one.

The sunroof retracts into the roof, right?
or does it pop out (on normal 1stgen's)

Because mine retracts into the roof...

yours is aftermarket,
i installed sunroofs and am mecp certified,
they way you descirbe it "retracts into the roof" that sounds like a moonroof rather then a sunroof
on the frame of the unit it should say the brand,

then just call some local sunroof shops,

if you cant find local sunroof shops then look for truck acc. shops or auto alarm shops,

make sure they have the whole unit in stock "they cant order just one small part"

then go there and talk to the head guy with the piece in hand

explain you situation and tell him you just need that one piece and you want them to do the work

throw in that you dont want a warranty if that helps "usally does"

if your any good at talking to people with a little luck the head guy will just open a new moonroof, take out the part you need, then send the moonroof back to the company as a defective unit.

it you throw in that you want them to do the work it makes it more worth there time,

dont ask how i know all this stuff but im sure you can figure it out

Wow, nice color, and nice sunroof. I was thinking about having one done like that in my car...But cost limits me most of the time .
