Sorry about that,

1. What kind of fluids do you guys use in the transmission and gear box.

2. My car has disk brakes in the rear, I've heard that there is a special tool you need to work on them, any ideas.

3. Some ******* put a hairline scratch down the back quarter panel, what would be your suggestion.

Thanks

I use Redline fluids in both. Check your manual for the grades, I can't remember off the top of my head. I have disc brakes in the rear of my RX and I've never needed a special tool to work on them.

About the scratch, find the ******* and gouge his face like he did your car.

After that, see if you can buff it out. If it's too deep and goes to the metal, then find a similar color paint and fill the scratch until you can get the panel painted. They sell small scratch pens at auto parts stores, try those. You'd be amazed how good it can work if you take your time and be careful.

You do not need a special tool.. but it does make it a little easyer.. The rear calipers must be turned to go back in.. you can not just use a C-clamp and push them back in...

You can turn the brake caliper pistons in with a set of needle-nose pliers. Works for me.

1. Redline full synthetic. Use the grades in your owners manual.

2. Pep Boys sells a universal tool that connects to a socket wrench and will allow you to turn the piston. You can compress them normally to about 1/2 way, then you need to use the funky tool. I'm sure a big *** screwdriver would work too.

3. Auto places sell touch up paint. Find some that looks like your car's color and use that. Be careful and go slow. You might want to try to gently buff it out. If you take your time you should be able to get it out. If it's only a hairline scratch and it doesn't go to the metal, try to buff it first. Some real light rubbing compound might help, but don't go nuts.

best of luck,

Hiya, Cowboy

You can run a synthetic in the gearbox and diff....Wee bit more "slick-ry-er" than the standard gear oil...Mine? Mobil 1. It's your choice, Pardner.

Regarding rear brakes, bought a cheap combo wrench at Wally World...think it is a 17mm, ground down the open-end tips so that they fit into the triange type depressions in the piston, clamp a vise grip to the other end and turn carefully...Rears aren't so bad on a GSL, it's the fronts that can prove to be a humbug....

Sratch...try what the other Cowboys say...If it's deep the only really good repair is to sand and repaint...

Denny, from the 'ol corncrib....
