There is a 1985 12A for sale. We jacked the rear-end up to test it.

The rear wheel was really hard to turn and there was a bit of a scraping sound. The other rear wheel did not turn.

This car has a LSD-unit, but is it still any good?

Probably not. It may be, but I wouldnt buy it. As far as I know, the wheels should spin "freely" as long as theres nothing binding like the brakes or whatever.

the only thing to check and make sure is to take the wheels off and make sure the brakes aren't binding... especially if the car's been sitting for any amount of time...

jack one side of the car up to the rear wheel is off the ground and the other side is still on the ground. then use a torque wrench and test to see when the LSD breaks free. if its under 20 lbs, its probably shot... 20-30 decent 30-40 pretty good, 40+ its probably locked.

but if you heard a scraping, it could be the pads as jeff said.

Woah...Does this really work? Good way to test it? By locked you mean locked as in welded? Or locked as in no good or "shot" also?

Does anyone know what a transmission shop might charge to replace the clutches?

Yeah... well, it looks kinda spooky to do. How hard is it to do? Do you need any special tools? Where do you get the parts? And do you have any specific advise? TIA

yes TJ that works.... im not sure i had the numbers right tho.. but they should be close. mine was completely shot. my t-wrench only goes down to 20 and it was spinning wheel. its gettin rebuilt now along with the motor. and by locked i meant welded (always engaged) which some ppl do in other classes but is illegal in SRX7.

if your just replacing the LSD plates its not too difficult. the only trick is getting the spacing right. "not too difficult" includes pulling axles, etc. lol
