To answer your question, albeit with a caveat, the 81-85 GSL cars had a LSD DIFFERENTIAL, not tranny. Look for cars with rear disk brakes, as they came with the LSD. THe '79 to '80 cars did not have rear discs or LSD offered. The GSL-SE transmission is identical to the earlier 12A cars, except for taller 5th gearing. The FC tranny is a different animal altogether, built stronger than the earlier ones, obviously because of the higher output of the FC 13B's.

On RWD cars the 'LSD' comes separate from the tranny. the D in LSD stands for differential.... that is where it is located. FWD cars have integrated differential and tranny. So in the RX-7 there is a differential (in the center of the rear axle) aslo known as the third member.

the GSL and SE trim levels of Gen I have LSD's, as do serveral Gen II's (ask them, I don't follow what has what in Gen II's) and all of Gen III's.

Did GSL's come with LSD as a standard or was it a option?

The GSL came with LSD standard. BTW the GSL-SE transmission is not identical to the 12a cars. The fifth gear is different and also the SE trans. has a vent in the bell housing.

Gear ratios

Here's a list of final drive ratios. I know what FC models had LSD, but I don't remember where that info is. If I find it, I'll post it.

83-8412A 3.933

84-85 13B GSLSE 4.076

85 12A 3.909

86-88 5-spd All 4.10

86-88 Automatic 3.909

89-92 Turbo 4.10
