Heh, everything should be done today. If I can get the slave cyl. off that is. I think I got the tranny and drive shaft in last night in record time. about 30-45 min. My finger still hurts when I move it man. Have you ever driven it? I was wondering how the suspension does in the twisties.

Is an aftermarket LSD better than the stock LSD, or is there not a difference? By aftermarker LSD I mean like one from mazdatrix. Thanks.

All GSL and GSL-SE trim cars had LSD from the factory... Sadly, people heard the internal clutches chatter and brought them back... Some were swapped with standard, peg-leg differentials, some were filled with oatmeal or some ****...

Also people have been swapping **** since forever... Some people have put LSD pumpkins on drum brake axles and whatnot. By now, every 1st gen is a mix-match of parts.

The 1st gen LSD's are clutch based, so after a while the clutches wear out...

Thus it is impossible to tell the difference between a open diff and a worn out or broken LSD, except to take it apart... But if it works, then you defenately have the good stuff...

I don't believe there are any aftermarked LSD's for the 1st Gen RX-7... However, you have a Series3 (1984-1985) so you are a good candidate for the Miata Swap...

Miata LSD is found on the Touring or S types and includes a 4.30:1 ring and pinion gears. It is of the TorSen type, so it is gear based and doesn't wear out. It also has better torque transfer peoperties from the slipping wheel to the gripping wheel.

The Miata half shafts have the same splines as the axles in the Series3 RX-7. The drive shaft yoke needs changed, I believe. There is also some other slight modification involving a bracket on the housing, but it should bolt up fairly easily to the axle housing.

Mazdatrix sells OEM Mazda LSD..

A good aftermerket LSD diff is Thorsen..but its expensive.

If that is not good for you ..you just need to get an shorted Ford 9 in or 8.8

pele hit my addition to the thread. if you can find a torsen out of a miata it will be the best bang for your buck. sometimes they will be for sale on some racing boards if there aren't any in the junkyards. the machanical reacts far quicker then a clutch but loses all lsd capability if the wheel has no traction at all, like lifting into the air.

Thorsen is a brand name?

TorSen (Stands for Torque Sensing.) is a type of Differential... Find it on a slammed Miata.

What does that mean? Don't all RWD cars do that? I had a '72 Duster that would do that. It damn sure didn't have a LSD.

The '85 12A I have does that too. It has drums on the rear which I would assume means the non LSD.
