Lowering the rear springs:

Hey i have put in the Eibach Pro Kit rear springs.

Even w/ these new(er, 1000 miles on them) springs, the car still sags to the drivers side. Now, i haven't done the front yet, so that may be part of the problem, but i am also looking to lower the rear just a bit more.

Is it safe to remove the plastic ring that sits on top of the rear spring? It doesnt fasten around the spring or anything, it just sits upt here. It seems to me i remember somebody saying that you can take it out, but i'm not sure exactly.

Seems to me its only function is to act as a safeguard against metal-on-metal rubbing of the top of the spring.

Any other opinions?

How far have you driven with them, any downsides you can see?

I'm going to go take them out right now (The engine is dead anywyas, its not going anywyere soon).

Also, is the driver sside sag just because of the front springs you think? Or is that the struts causing that??

I was under the inpression that those plastic spacers were the seats, and that the spring will move around on you if you take them out.... If I am wrong let me know!!! I would love to lower the rear of the car some more.

I don't know the exact answer, but in my experience and opinion, things often are put there for a purpose. In the case of the rat's nest, not a good one... but I'm guessing that in the case of high-performance lowering springs, the purpose is a well thought-out, meaningful one, like what 851stgen12a suggested.

You can take 'em out if ya want, and since I know J Oliver knows his stuff (all hail R&P King), I'd guess there are no adverse affects... I just personally wouldn't try it!

Just my humble $0.02 (Canadian of Course)

Well, as all of us americans know, canadian cents are worth jack ****!!! HAHA sorry man couldn't resist.

I'm trying it out, just for now. The upper perch is re-inforced steel, so i dont think it will be going through to the inside of the car, and these plastic pieces didnt come w/ the eibach kit, they came stock on the car, for the stock springs.

How thick are your plastic tops. Mine were 1/2 inch tops, probably less with the weight on them. It would seem that they would keep the spring properly located side to side. Iotus, maybe you should have searched for some King Springs super lows out of Australia. I'm getting the impression that they are generally considered too low for regular street use. With them you could have used the threaded rear spring perches to raise the car up to liveable height as they offer a 3" range of adjustment. Just my thoughts.

The spacers are there as an insulator between the spring and body, with out them you will have a little more road noise but thats it.
