Low Beams

The low beam headlights on my 84 RX7 (12A) dont work
The high beams do.
I traced the wires back to the firewall, there's juice on the highbeam up to the
light switch on the steering column, but no power on the low beam wire.
Have not yet taken apart the steering column to get at the contacts for the
low/high switch.
Has anyone had any similar problems, if so, was it the switch for lo/hi,
anything fixable or did the whole thing need to be replaced.

Normally, this issue is related to the dimmer switch. Some have had good luck with spraying electrical contact cleaner into the switch, and operating it repeatedly (without the lights on and battery unhooked). Others have had to take the switch apart to clean it.

Thanks man. I don't recall if I stated this in the thread, but you might not have to take anything apart to get the spray in there. Good luck!

took it all apart the way you did, took only 5 minutes and sprayed the hell out of it, gonna let it sit overnight and put it back together in the morning. hope that's what the problem was. I'll let you know.
Thanks

yep, put it back and lowbeam worked.not for long though.
noticed some smoke coming from switch area, did not smell like wires, more like grease.
figured the warming up of the contacts made grease melt and run onto contacts.
anyhow lowbeam not working again, so am taking it apart again and spraying some more cleaner

When I did mine, I just hosed it in there and worked the controls on/off for a few minutes. The fact that they worked for a while probably means that you are on the right track. Good luck!

YEAH, everything back together again, lost on of the springs, went to Lordco and foundone that fit. got low beam working but sometimes it still stays off.
I think it is the 6 pin connector, as when I pushed against it in an upward motion low beams came on.took connector out and tried to get switch assembly out, 3 screws, but only got 2 out as I could net get the whole assembly of the steering column.did not want to break anything so just pried the switch open at the bottom where the 2 screws were out and hosed it. after that it worked but just tried again and lowbeam off again, have to fiddle with switch to get it working. Better than before tho when th3ey were not working at all.
so good enough for me for now.
thanks,
