comments about animals makes my blood boil more than anything. seeing as you didn't reply in kind I suppose i'll post something useful. Are your ball joints and tie rod ends old, if so one of those might be popping under the strain of full lock. Another thing to check would be the idle arm bushings (on passenger side frame rail) If they are old changes are they have fallen apart and will make a banging noise. Take a good look at your ball joints in particular, I've had them pop out of the control arms and flop around making all sorts of noise. good luck

Could it be the tire hitting something? With the larger swaybars on the Spec cars, they tend to hit, but the noise is more of a grind than a pop.

actually, make sure the lube in your steering box is compltely filled Mine leaked all of it out, and would make a loud pop when I turned the wheel a great distance. Eventually the wheel completle locked up when I was turning left before I actually checked the thing

I found the thing bone dry. I refilled all the fluid and the thing was like new

it could also be your strut tower bearing.

with a macpherson strut setup, the whole strut assembly rotates when you turn your wheel. To do this, it bolts to the tower through a bearing that lets it swivel. When the bearing goes bad and you're turning, the spring around the strut winds up, them lets go with a loud pop
