PeeJay it work she started right up. I had to do alot of work to make the oil cooler fit but it fits still don't like it there. And those houses were 68 bucks had them made custom at a machin shope and they are rated for like 3000 pnds of pressure and they are very nice and sturdy.

Should just bolt to the bottom of the radiator... did you use the '79-82 radiator or the '83-85 radiator?

i used the 83-85 i did not think the 78-82 radiotor was as big or as good. so i just modded the skid plate and i think no i should have lots of airflow and the oil temp should be real low.

The only reason the '83-85 radiator was bigger was because it had to reject the additional heat from the water/oil cooler.

You worry me, man... The oil cooler mount on the driver's side of the '80 broke from the car bottoming out on stuff all the time. I don't like having the oil cooler down there... oh well, supposedly it does a worse job of cooling the oil if you put it in front (never mind that's where GSL-SEs and all FCs put their oil coolers)

I worry you. Well it will not brake trust me there are brakets welded down ther that make it very stout. And i am gonna put the skid plate back and make it around the oil cooler should be every interesting. WEll i should have plenty of cooling. for everything and good luck on keeping cool. Well this should be great. i hope

I must say, nice work.
As stated in another thread I was hoping too do this as well (not until around June or spring break though, when I get some actual time too do some work.)
definately feel more sure about doing it now that I know it's been done before.
You can probably expect me too be posting a shitload of questions when I find time too actually do it. (I'm currently responsible for taking both me and my sister too college and work 7 days a week, so yanking my car apart isn't too good of an idea right now.)

How long did it take you?

After i got the hoses made and figured out where to put it with the short hoses. about 30 minutes. Big tip get the cooler figure out where you want it then measure for lines and take the old ones that are nasty and tell them you need line with these ends which they won't be able to do. You will end up getting fitting to screw into your block and then the new ones screw onto those so much better and they will use all kinds of different hose i got some strong stuf cause it was laying around but pj says if use the older radiator you can mount it in the catory place if this is true i will be pissed at my self for all the work i did but i will be glad because i made it work with what i had. You need a few tools and no much knowledge. but i did mine due to broke it and i had to fix it. Well it is fixed and i have to say no one out there has a set up like it. by the way if you have problems finding a place to make those hoses i can give you the number and the anme of a guy who used to wokr for mazda and made my set perfect except i had no measured how long and went with the factory specs. And it only ran about 70 bucks cheap compared to some places and they are made to fit and havea life time warranty. but i thought about making a kit to do this but i d not know if there was any intrest in my kit the oil cooler would infront of everthing and would have some mad airflow and the lines would be perfect cause the guy said he would come by loook at it and measure and make the hoses perfect to my spec. will do this some time for my own but right now i just had to get her back on the road.

dan

any more questions ask away. my cooler had a wave due to being bent and i think it is cool so we now have nick named it the wave.

I couldn't quite tell from the pics but it looks like the lines going to the remote filter are just attatched to the fittings with hose clamps. If so are you sure they're gonna hold up to 70psi of oil pressure? Anyway, that setup looks pretty trick, good work. BTW, how much ground clearance do you have with that cooler down so low?

hangs down like 1/2 inch further than the normal skid plate so clearence should be no problem.

And the lines are rated for 200 psi and hose clamp should hold 70 psi no problem.

I dunno if it's too late or not, but check in front of the radiator, towards teh driver's side of the car. There'll be a bracket for the GSL-SE oil cooler since you have a MY1985.

Your install looks pretty good though. Dunno bout those hose clamps as other's have said. It'd suck if they blew off at high speed.

i have had pressure to those hose clamps and the fittings are barbed so it would no only have to pull out of the hose clamps but also over the barbed end. so i think i should be safe. I have had pressure up to 120 already and no leaks so i think i am safe but i have spare hose clamps and oil in the car at all times.
