Lost The Only Key! Need Ignition Help!

Ok, so today i went with some friends to pick up Shizzy, my '83 LE RX-7. the only remaining key was NOT where i had left it, so now i have no way to start it up or lock and unlock the doors. my friends and i tried to find the lock code on the machanism, but we were told we had to remove and locate it on the tumbler assembly itself, which i could not remove. a locksmith told us that figuring out what code the key was would cost around $185, so screw that. my plan for now is to go up to a junkyard and rip out a wrecked RX-7's locks and ignition system and swap them in. does anyone know how to remove the part of the lock you insert the key into without damaging the car? thanks

Can you open the car? If not, get a slim jim and open your car door. Once inside, remove the door panel and remove the lock assembly... You're gonna have to remove the lock assembly to replace them anyhow...

I'd say your best bet is to bring your registration to the local Mazda dealership and see if they can cut you a key.

ehh shop around, make them compete against one another. i had a lock smith come out and make a key from a blank he had. popped it in and filed where it hung until it started, truely badass, then he copied it to two more keys all for 80 bones, he made the 3 keys for me from the ignition cylinder in under 40 minutes
