Angry Lost My Key!!!

Well I did it this time. I lost my key to my project car. (84 SE) Its not going anywhere anytime soon, and has been as of lately a parts car.

Well I came back to TX where I keep all my toys. So I decided I was going to get some parts out of the SE. Well when I went to my key ring where I keep all my project keys on, It was missing. Luckly I know how to get into a 7 when she is locked. lol

I have been meaning to go make a copy of the one to the SE, but I never got around to it. Now I wish I would have.

Since then I have went and made copys of all my keys and put them in the box at the bank.

But now How am I going to be able to turn on the car, for that day when the TII swap begins, I dont wanna have to hot wire it all the time!

What are my opinions on getting a new key for the car, and not having to change every lock on it?

Maybe if you give the Mazda delaer the VIN they can get one for you? Worth a try.

They can make one off the vin for you. I Got a car that had been done that way.

I say remove the switch and just put in a toggle for main power and push button start. I know a great way to drop out the key that lockes the sterring wheel without removing all the switch.

That's sucks... I did the same thing. I had to pull my ignition off to start it. funny thing is, a friend of mine had some used car keys from a dealership he worked at years ago said i could look through them (figured i would find one and re-key everything) Well, i found one off of a 96 626 that acually turned the ignition! What lucky break! Only one out of five mazda keys that worked... mine is an 82, thats a 14 year gap, and i worked!

Call a locksmith and talk to them. Likely problem solved. If not, call another one.

I will try the dealer. Then depending on how much they want I will call a locksmith and ask them what are my options. Then decide from there.

Hades, i wanna hear more about this Idea of yours, Is it an Idea or have you dont this to a car?

Hatch lock

Best/cheapest way is to remove the hatch lock cylendar and take it to the locksmith. Should be about $20 for a new pair of keys.Since you know how to get into a 7 the hatch lock is the easiest to remove. Unless the ignition has been changed before this will work.

I assume you know how to remove the end of the key switch to be able to start the car with a screw driver, but that still leaves the stearing wheel lock in place. Only way to remove it is to take off the full switch assembly or use a drill. PM if you want to know how to drill it.

get your hands on any other FB key, they all seem to be universal now as our locks are all worn out. Mine works on all my buddies FB's and theres all work on mine.

Using the VIN to cut a new key does not work on these OLD cars. You need the 4 digit code on the key cylinder inside the door to have the dealer cut you a new key.

I can't remember if it's the driver or passenger side though.
