Looks like my alternator went...

Coming home from a drive today, I stopped at a stop sign and the car dropped to idle and then all the lights came on on the dash as if it stalled but it was still running. i revved it up and they went off. I let it idle again and watch the volt meter drop on the dash.
I drove it home no problem and now im looking at my opions. I searched and found the S5 alt swap and also the GM alt swap. My car has the stock stereo and always will. The only electical upgrade are Bosh driving lights i rarely use.

Is the upgrage worth it for a stock car? I was planning on buying a remaned one one next week or trying to rebuild it, but im not sure.
Suggestions?

If your staying with stock radio and limited upgraded electrical parts I would go with a S4 alt(70 amp). S4 is straight swap, I just had to use larger washer on the side where you bolt it down to the waterpump side.

Have battery checked also to make sure its good.

Battery might show up dead, but just drained from the alt failing..

You should be able to find a local Auto/Electrical company that rebuilds starters, alternators and such. That is of course if you want to keep your original alternator or that is even important to you. Maybe it isn't even the original one? If you buy a new one from the local parts store, the replacement cores just go back to be rebuilt anyway. It's up to you, but I perfer to keep my alternators and just have them rebuilt.
