Looking for some information.
Hey everyone. Got some questions about 1st gens. I am buying one soon once I find one I want.
Just want to know:
1) Is an 84 GSL any heavier then say an 82 (not sure on trim package)?
2) How much heavier were the models that came with factory sunroofs then the ones without sunroofs?
3) I know the GSL SE had more HP then the models with the 12A's in them. But were there any HP differences in any of the models with 12A's? Were there any weight differences between the different models (GSL, GSL SE, etc etc.)?
As you can see I am going for the lightest possible I can get. Which one would any of you suggest I get? Year? I am probably gonna get engine rebuilt right away or very soon so mileage on engine is not a huge factor for me. Thanks for any info.

The GSL-SE is always the best choice. Probably the heaviest also. I don't know of any significant weight differences between the years, but I am sure there are some. Items like a/c, power steering, sunroof etc.
The GSL-SE will get you more power, better handling and braking. Always a good bet.

If you are wanting to go light, go for the S or GS without the sunroof or options. The GSL and GSL-SE are the heavier cars, but the GSL-SE has more power. Pull the weight of the SE, and you have a mucho powerful car!!!
No significant weight difference between 12a years... No hp differences unless you are talking 79, 80... they were slightly less, I believe.

1) Not enough top worrie about
2) Please see #1
3) No, and Please see #1
If you are getting an FB to be a daily driver, get the GSL-SE all of the creature comforts and you won't have to swap any parts once you begin to modify it.
If you are going to buy a chassis with the intention of building it up, get any model with out a sunroof, a manual tranny, and a disc brake rear end just to save you time later on. If you are going to be building it up, all of the other stuff doesn't really matter.

I will be modding it pretty soon afterwards. But over time and stuff. But the engine rebuild may be the 1st thing that happens if funds allow it. I was just curious as to which are lighter then others and such.
Thanks for the info.

yeah the model you probably want is an 81-83 GS. I believe the 84-85 models had a heavier rear and some other stuff. Other things that weigh a good number are the window motors and the sunroof. Im not sure what options the GSL had that the GS didnt have, interior-wise.
