Looking for help on removing engine, trans, and rear end
#5
That damn rear end and drive shaft were a pain in the *** to sepperate on my car. If the engine and trans are both coming out i think it would be easier to pull them both out at once rather than sepperating them under the car.

Yup, easiest to pull both at the same time if your plan is to pull them both if that makes sense. I've pulled one or the other before for specific jobs but if I knew both were coming out, I took them out together. Never had any problems removing the drive shaft. Only rear-end related problems I tend to have are with the emergency brake cable and once with the shocks. They had been on so long the bushings actually cemeted to the mounting bolts and the bolt couldn't be taken out. 82Transam took a cutoff wheel to the bolts and he said it was still a pain in the but. Otherwise the other two that I've dropped I've had no problems. Should be some other MI 7 owners near you in GR. See if any will come out. Post on mirotaryclub.com too since some of the western MI owners are on there too.

You can also put a ziploc bag over the end of the tranny tailshaft, and then put a rubberband and/or zip tie(s) around to seal it. Usually keeps the fluid inside the transmission during removal
