Question Looking for Brake Pads

I seem to remember running across a review of some brake pads for our first gens. The pads in question were not the Hawk pads, in fact, the writer liked these mystery pads more because they covered a LOT more rotor area... the pads were almost larger than the rotors surface area. If anyone has a clue as to what i'm talking about please let me know. If not, reccomendations for good brake pads? All i seem to see in my search is people talking about the Hawk HPS pads, are they that good?

I love my hawk pads. My only complaint with them is the ammount of dust compared to stock.

Hawk pads are very good pads. as schreindogg said, they do dust more than stock pads but they won't eat up your rotors while providing better stopping force.

I hate the noise, squeel, and dust that my Hawk HP+ pads generate under ALL braking conditions, but I can't argue with the stopping power that they generate when you stomp on the brakes.

Stainless braided lines make a big difference too, if you're willing to put in the extra effort. With my Autozone Lifetime Guarantee pads, I had very little dusting, very little noise, and very little braking ability - I could barely lock up the tires under heavy braking...

If I had it to do again, I'd buy HPS (Street Compound), HTH,

are there any good brake pads that dont squeal? I got $10 ones from NAPA, they work good when they are cool, but if I use the brakes a lot they fade like crazy.

The HPS Hawk pads don't squeal. The HP+ have more of a tendancy to make noise.

Ive had a luck of good results with the Porterfield R4-S compound.. Good bite, decent wear characteristics, low dust, low noise.. a bit more expensive than the $10 autozone, but worth every penny.

Ive been using Axxis Metalmasters (formerly Repco) up front for a number of years on each of my SEs ... good stopping power, fade resistant, no squeel, low dust, easy on the rotors.. what more could one ask for, probably the best all around brake pad ... Axxis organics or stock pads on the rears for proper braking bias

I've got KVR carbon kelvar, couldn't be happier. They don't eat the rotor, squeel or fade and the dust is minimal and appearently not as corrosive. Only downside is they are hard to come by.
