Watch out! Using his body shop buddy, you may get his friends body shop fix-up special. Just make sure they don't cut corners, do the work right, and paint the whole car.

On the upside, by bypassing the insurance, you'll avoiding an increase of premium for him and for you. Doesn't insurance suck

Yes, insurance sucks. I've heard mixed opinions about this shop. We're in a small town of about 10k people....so you get everyones opinion on everything here.

It disappoints me that they are so quick to want to just REPLACE the air dam with a new one.

I don't care how much it costs. Its my car. If they didn't want to have to pay so much, their friend shouldn't have HIT MY CAR!

(breathes in, breathes out)

Anyways, I haven't been able to come up with any air dams I like besides mine. I'm just going to make them fix it.

I know they will have to make a mold when repairing mine......so maybe I can buy the mold off of them, and make a few copies.

I still remember about 100 people asking where to get an air dam like mine when I bought the car and posted pics on this forum back in January.

And, as for people disliking the airdam....I can't for like life of me understand why someone would find the stock front appealing.......but, opinions are opinions.

The shop opens up tomorrow at 8am....I'll be seeing how everything plays out tomorrow.
I feel the same way about your body kit that you feel about the stock look. And I feel bad now- since a few months ago I actually posed this question:< What would happen if your car was hit and you can't get replacement body kit parts. > :-/
But since Kaminari still is a company making body kits- you might call them just to make sure they don't have any extra front air dams like yours sitting in storage.
Also, I hope you have a witness to the damage besides you- just in case this guy backs out of the repair cost if it gets higher than he expects. Just for future reference- CALL THAT POLICE AND GET AN ACCIDENT REPORT- even on private property. WIthout that people can easily screw you over accident repair. This guy's insurnace wouldn't even take you call if you don't have an accident report to show that this guy is liable for your damage BTW.

Dude this isnt so bad I thought you were gonna show us pics of a burned or trashed car. Sounds like you got some free body work and paint and access to a junkyard. Milk it and be nice and you might have yourself a new Buddy!

Angry

Well,

An update on the situation:

I drive to the body shop, to see how the work is coming along. What do I see? My car, parked in the same spot. It hasn't moved an inch since I dropped it off.

So, I go in, and ask them. He says, that they have tried to call "Bob at B&R" 5 times, and left messages, and he hasn't responded once.

WTF.

I told the guy, I only went the current route, because I was being nice, and now I'm upset, and worried. I ask the body shop if I should call the cops, or who's insurance company.

I also ask if my rates would go up, even after HE hit me when my car was parked.

The guy said that I shouldn't get too worked up yet, and maybe there is just some miscommunication between Bob and Brent, the owner of the body shop.

So, I get an estimate to fix the damage.
Fender
Repl LT molding side front $65.45 (Labor 0.2)
R&I LT Nameplate "Mazda Rx7" (0.2)
R&I LT molding side rear (0.2)
Rpr LT Fender (6.0)

Front Bumper
Rpr Bumper Cover (3.0)
Repl LT reinforcement bracket outer $11.60
Repl Protector Outer - $5.45

Front Lamps
Repl LT Side Marker Lamp $34.60 (0.3)
Repl LT Lens Park Lamp - $17.35 (0.2)
Repl LT Lens Gasket - $5.95

Valence (air dam) (15.0) (3.0 paint)
Add for clear coat (1.0)

Parts = $140
Body Labor = 25.1 @ $44.00/hr = 1104.40
Paint Labor = 8.9 @ $44.00/hr = 391.60
Paint Supplies = 8.9 @ $28.00/hr = $249.20
Subtotal = $1885.60
Grand Total = $1918.72.

Holy crap thats alot more than I imagined.

Anyways, I'm worried now that the guy won't pay, because I can't imagine his deductible is more than $1900.

I took an estimate to "Bob" and he asked if they were finished with the car yet. I told him no, and said that they need his authorization to fix it, and he can either write me a check, or write a check out to them, and I'll take it over there. He said he'd call Brent and have him get to work.

That sounded pretty much like another run around to me, so I went back to the body shop, and said that he thought they were already done. The rep there told me that that sounds like an authorization to him, and he'd start work. He gave me something to sign, and I said, umm....if this guy doesn't pay, does this mean I have to pay for it?

So, I made them put in something saying they won't start work til they have his authorization. Now the situation is, Bob said he'd call today and give them a go ahead.

I asked the bodyshop to call me today before they close and let me know whats going on, and they agreed.

The bodyshop has been totally cool with me, but this Bob guy is totally flaking out.

If I don't have an authorization from him to work, I'm calling the cops and getting a report, calling my insurance company with his information, and sticking it to this ***.

I have plenty of witnesses to the accident, which is what I'm sure I'll need for the police report, if I have to go that route.

I hope not....but I'll keep you all posted.

Well,

5pm rolled around, and no call from the body shop. I wait til 6, and then I call the shop (open 24 hours for a towing service as well).

I explain to whoever answered the phone, that it was a time sensitive situation, and the representative agreed to call me before 5 to let me know what I have to do.

He told me he'd call the rep, and have him call me back. I said, thanks....but figured that wouldn't happen.

Surprisingly, I got a call about 20 minutes later from the rep on his cell phone. He told me that he gave the secretary instructions to call me, and she hadn't.

Whether or not that was true, I didn't care, because he said they had authorization, the guy paid, and my parts had already been ordered through Mazda.

I heard that "Bob" got a discount on the $1900 figure, which worried me, thinking that meant I'd get stuck with broken junkyard parts on my car.

But, Bob actually didn't have any FBs or SAs. Only some chopped up 2nd gen...so I scored all new replacement parts, and he said the car should be ready for me no later than Friday.

Ahh, I'm in a good mood now. Only thing bugging me now, is that I'll have a perfect air dam, and I still have my damn steep *** driveway to scratch it on. I'm gonna have to look into either resloping the driveway, or getting some air cylinders installed on the car.

::Going Up.....::

UPDATE....

Well, I called today (Monday) and the car's still not done. They were supposed to call me Wednesday for an update - never did.

They were supposed to call me Friday to come pick it up, and they never did that either.

So, I asked today, if my car is done yet.

The guy says no, they're finishing the bodywork today, and it's going in for paint tomorrow. Now it's supposed to be ready for pickup Wednesday.

This better be a damn GREAT job, with their 2 week takin bastard slow asses.

it wasn't their fault that the authorization didn't go through when you wanted it. What if the parts from mazda were delayed? Yes, they *should* have called you but they didn't. Rule number one concerning bodywork is don't rush the guy that is repairing and painting your car.

BTW, I never got a response from you concerning that 1979 instrument cluster. It's been a couple of weeks. Should I call you?

Email me at ThePartsYouNeed@aol.com about parts. We've been busy as *%^ lately with Ebay, and I haven't had much time to touch the 2 Rx7s I'm parting out.

The 2 weeks I'm talking about, isn't even counting the "authorization" mixup.

2 Fridays ago, they had authorization, and had everything ordered that day. Last Friday makes 1 week, and Wednesday makes it well, 12 days.

Add the other 10 days or so, and its 22 days - 3 weeks without the 7, all because some retard doesn't know how to drive his truck.

I don't want to RUSH them through the work, but it is some bad service to never return a promised call, OVER, and OVER.

Believe me, I'm not even going to make any plans to see my car by Wednesday, with the way things are going.

according to the beginning of the thread, the accident happened when? 11-30-03? Believe me when I say that you are getting your car back hella quick. I mean HELLA quick. It took two MONTHS to get the basic bodywork done on my 1980. The shop I wanted to fix it actually got me in special. They were booked MONTHS ahead. They put me ahead of a Camaro restoration project that has been there over ONE YEAR. Two month waiting period and in the shop for two days.

Another time, one of my cars was actually at a shop for THREE MONTHS and the shop owner was a personal friend.

Well, I'm still tacking on days and days.

I stopped in today to make sure SOMETHING had been done on the car. Of course, although they claimed I would have the car today (just like all the other days) I won't.

I requested to be able to see the car's progress, and they took me to one of the back garages.

The smashed in Fender was repaired, and the entire front valence was 1 piece again, and up on a rack.

It looked decent, until I noticed they didn't even touch the dent above the wheel. A baseball sized dent appeared right after the crash, I assume where the fender relaxed.

So, today turns into Monday, and with them saying "maybe Tuesday"....I'm thinking JANUARY.

All these fun roads here, and I'm stuck in my FWD 00 Accord......D'oh!

I'll honestly tell you what they are thinking there. Small job and a small profit margin. Let's get that $14k insurance job done first.

let me say again...you are getting your car back FAST anyway. It's been less than 3 weeks.
