Locking my baby down.

There's a metal "hook" on the back driverside under the bumper. I have an abus chain and fork lock (from my motorcycle) that fit that hook nicely. If I lock my baby to a pole, for example, to that hook - and someone tries to drive away, will there be serious damage to my car when it suddenly stops or if the crook tries to really race the car out of that spot?

One bolt and you can take the entire hook off. It isn't that hard to remove and anybody with a decent socket set can have it unhooked in less than 1 minute.

Yeah, but I thought the initial realization that the car was bolted-down might deter many would-be thieves. My concern is whether it would damage the car. If it would not damage the car, perhaps I could have the bolt welded on.

They'll probably just cut the chain off with a pair of compound jaw bolt cutters if they really want it. Or if they're really nuts they'll go at it with a grinder. Bottom line is if they want it, they're going to get it.....

If someone tried to drive away and put some tourqe on that hook it would mess up the bumper and the thin metal piece below the bumper. Just get a steering wheel lock instead.

Your better off disableing either the fuel or ignition system.

I've actually thought about doing this myself.. Yes it will damage the car unfortunately... and it might pss someone off who's trying to steal it bad enough to make them do more damage to it..

It'll likely do some damage, in one way or another. Pulling it back into the curb, bending frame, etc. Better off with a hidden fuel cut off switch.

A friend of mine mentioned that you could have something like a headphone jack which is the switch, then you have a 3.5mm plug that is just joined inside, and when you plug that in that completes the fuel pump circuit for example. (youd want to run it thru a relay of course).

Are you really asking if you can chain up your car?

Hey, I have these abus chains for my motorcycle, and when I'm not riding the bike I'm driving the rx7. Either way, One chain is "free" at all times, might as well be tying down the car. When I park at work there's a pole that reaches. I imagine in most parking lots, I'd be able to find similar spots if I looked hard enough.

Just find out which fuse is for the fuel pump and remove it when parking in a doubtful location.

Sorry, but I think if I was a potential car thief, I'd see the chain, and go, "Ooooh, they gotta have something good." That our I'd get so pissed at the audacity of the chain, that I'd just F with the car.

Exactly.

Remove the fuse for your fuel pump, or better yet wire it up to a small switch hidden somewhere.

The small hidden switch for the fuel pump has worked for me; plus it lets me leave the ignition on to work on other things, and not have the fuel pump running too.
