Thanks,

I copied the system off a newer Ford I used to have cause I got tired of reaching over to turn the air off every time I wanted full power.

I have a a clean, 2 owner 85 RX7 GS. It had the dealer installed A/C system. It was manufactured by Lone Star Manufacturing Inc. back in the day. Lone star made the Dealer installed kits specifically for Mazda in a US commerce department reccomendation to up the US parts content of imported vehicles. My a/c compressor is a litle different from all the other systems I have seen. My car doesn't have power steering, and the compressor is mounted very low compared to the other ones I have seen. My a/c works awesome, cools decent even in 105+ degrees we recently had here in Houston.

Here is a link to the part I used to create the "full throttle A/C cutout" feature.

That's a great idea! What ford did you have that had that so I, or us budget minded folks may possibly find a junkyard part. I always wanted to move the compressor switch to the shifter but this makes it effortless.

It was on a Crown Victoria, but I think that just about all "modern" cars have a similar feature, a potential problem with using the junkyard part is that it probably wont be adjustable so it may not cutoff at just the right throttle position, but who knows it may work and would certainly be more cost effective.

Damn. Looks like the compressor is leaking. There is oil on the underside of the compressor and the UV dye seems to only be around the front half. I think it might be the input shaft seal. Guess its time to tear it down and see what I can replace.

Can you spot the leak? (Green UV Dye)

I have a feeling it is leaking from the o-rings between the compressor sections, instead of from the front shaft seal. Anybody agree?

Looks ominous to me. My Tarot cards tell me you may have a new compressor in your future.

Today I ordered:

Shaft Seal (SK-740N) Fits 10P13C, 10P15C, 10P17, 6E171/6E171A, 6P127, 6P134, and 6P148
SK-740N 1 $14.30 $14.30
Gasket Set (KT-10PMGN) fits 10P13C, 10P15C_1
KT-10PMGN 1 $12.50 $12.50

Apparently, the internals of the 10P13 compressors are the same, but the A.B.C.D.E.F relate to mounting ears and input fittings. These two kits should fit. The input shaft seal Rockauto lists for the 5 bolt 85 compressor is not the correct part at all, as I found out today.

Tore the compressor apart and mechanically it looks clean inside. There was really no wear visible on any metal part. O-rings were flatter than a crepe, and there was dye all over the compressor nose from the input shaft seal.

Interesting note, Mazda Canada parts fiche doesn't even acknowledge the fact these cars had AC. It also seems that the Dealer's buy price is higher than my Mazda Motorsports account. Shame all the parts are inactive. Was AC not an option in Canada?

These guys. A few places seem to have the parts, but none in Canada. They were the cheapest I could find that had both kits.

You are attempting something that I failed at, (rapairing a compressor). Keep us posted......Maybe give me some pointers for next time. I put a front seal in my compressor and it continued to leak. I still dont know what I did wrong, gave up and bought a compressor.

Did you touch the carbon seal with your bare fingers? Carbon and ceramic seals usually will leak if they get oil from your skin on them.

Does the compressor in these systems cycle on and off while running? When I had charged it to try to find the leak earlier, I had noticed it didn't seem to ever cut out. Pressure switch does cut out for low pressure though, before I had charged it at all.

The low pressure switch in the system as far as I know only serves to protect the compressor if there is not enough refrigerant in the system (no refrigerant usually means no oil). The only other sensor is the frost warning sensor in the evaporator core. There really isn't any high pressure cutoff switch in this system, nor is there a pressure cycling switch like you would find in a accumulator/orifice tube system.

Perhaps the compressor remains running at all times the ac is on for the FB? The compressor can only really achieve a certain pressure anyway. From reading that thread on R152a in the FC section, it would seem as if their compressors do cycle.

Mine cycles, but not often, usually only when I am running the fan on low and when I am at highway speeds. Not very often when I am stationary at idle. At one time in the past it would cycle much more frequently than it does now and I have never been able to figure why.

Is your system a nippondenso system?
