LED tach

HOw would you hook your tach up to a set of LED lights that would light up as your revs rose? like they have on lemans cars?

it would be hard to do, but possible witht he right knowledge and skill
i wouldnt mind it in the stock location

i was thinking about putting it over the dash...in a place easy to see....i want it to light up green...then yellow then red....i have been thinking of repalcing my analog gadges with digital ones...

simple, put a series of contacts along the arc the tach needle sweeps, one contact per LED you want, run a wire along the needle, position the needle wire so it touches the contacts as it sweeps past.

you might want to do a little wizardry to keep the lights the needle has passed lit until the needle drops past them again.
since there wouldn't need to be lots of current, very fine wires could be used.

thats what i was thinking...or use the motor that drives the tach (i think it is and electric tach right) to do something simmilar...but would it be durable? i was thinking about having the first contact wired to light the first light...the second contact lights the first 2 lights...ect...but all of the lights would go out when the contact was lost....so complicated
