Leaving My LE Semi-Stock?

Let me just give some background:

I dont plan on selling the car ever, it has been my dads since he drove it off the lot in 83. It was full stock when I got it, but the engine was blown. I replaced it with a new Streetported motor.

Now I am about to start doing alot of mods to my 83.

Wideband, FC fuse box, 2GCDFIS w/ TT, Fuel System Upgrade.

I am having a hard time bringing myself to install these things, I want to keep it as stock as possible I guess.

But yet, I already have a Streetported 12a with a sterling carb, and an aftermarket Stereo set up. The body is stock and I plan on keeping it that way.

Am I being stupid and worrying about stuff thats under the hood, and how it looks. I mean I have already took the leap of faith once I installed the Streetport.
Am I over thinking things?

Stop thinking and start doing. Just make sure that all the stuff you do is done with thought as far as where the wiring goes, and have it all loomed or taped up so it looks like it is supposed to be that way. Basically, nothing like my engine bay and you are golden.

I think you are fine doing the mods. Just keep all the stock stuff and make sure everything can be reversed if ever needed. I have thought of the same with my GSL-SE. I don't know if I should go for the stock/restore or to mod. I figure that it isn't low miles and I will never sell, so I will probably mod it some. I would like a 2nd GSL-SE to keep stock and store (I don't think I could stand not driving it, though ).

It is a difficult call to make. Good luck.

yup

Edit: I know for a fact that my car will never be sold as one piece. I will strip it down and crush the shell no matter how little rust there is. The parts will be sold off and that way I cant see anyone destroy my car, or abuse it in a way I dont agree with.

Yeah, shes got a lot of miles on her 175k

Its a tough call, I dont ever plan on selling her, the paint isnt factory, so that kinda takes down the resale value, It is a tough call still

My idea of a super nice car is a sleeper, thus the T2 powered FB in the works.

I think I just need to get over it, and as long as I keep it very nice looking not wires everwhere, crimped connections etc etc. I should be good. Just make sure I do it up right.

Thanks guys

I totally agree with IanS,

I have seen first hand someone destroy someone else hard hard work, not care about it one bit! It was one of the nicest FD's I have seen, full suspension, rebuilt Streetported Engine, rollbar, It won its Class everytime it went to the track.

Then it was sold to my Step-brother. I swear to this day Dr. bob the man it was bought from knew it was going to happen. I saw a tear roll down his face when my idiot step-brother drove off in it. He had to have known, hell even I knew.

I will let you guys just use your mind to what happened to the car. He never deserved that car. It was the hardest for me to just sit there and watch your dream car get ruined, I couldnt imagine if that was my FB

I say go resto-mod. Keep it mostly stock but just add the things to make it run better than factory. The FC ignition and Fuse box are a good idea as well as you should run the FC front oil cooler. Run a nice RB exhaust to appear stock but give good performance. You might even go so far as to swap to a GSL rear end so you could have LSD and disc brakes. But whatever the choice you make you'll be happy with. Keep us updated

I say that if you already have a streetported motor in it then go all the way with it. If it still had stock motor and everything in it then I would say otherwise, but considering you've already taken one step forward, why not finish the race?

Yeah i feel your pain. I think i really wanted to keep my car stock because over the last 4 yrs I have stock pilled parts in my garage and never tried to put any on the car. From 3 different spoiler to full suspension and exaust.

I would really ike to keep the stock apperence but i think my need for speed will over come that and it will be modded.

But I think you are heading in the right direction anyway. The Sterling still looks like a stock peice. The streetport can not be seen. The fuel pump yoo can make shield for it so it cant be seen and apairs stock. The only minor things that you have mentioned so far that will be noticable would be the FPR, maybe an etra gauge or two, and some added boxes and wires.

For example look at Kim'sFB even thought it is modded it still looks extremly clean like it might have even come from the factory that way. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...inished002.jpg

Just take your time and do it right and you wont be sorry.

Yeah, her car is sooo nice!!

I want to get a RA OMP adaptor plate so I can inject Pre-Mix into it, so I can run synthetic in the engine itself, Yes I am a believer in not running Syn in the engine.

I just need to find something stock to hold the Pre-Mix. Everyone says the plastics would holed up, but i will try to find one and maybe find a coating for the inside.

I don't know much about these cars. but mine's in bad shape, so I'm modding it. It's gonna be black w/blacked out tails, and rims. and a black interior, and tinted windows, I want it to be steath like. but thats just my personal taste, Dark and Fast.

That is cool, to each his own. I own two FB's The LE, which is my DD at the moment and a Black 1984 GSL-SE. That is my project car, I have ordered clear lenses and all that for it, I dont worry so much about modding that one, As the plans for it call for a Turbo Rotary, a sleeper with a few touchs is the look im going for.

This is the way I'm going, but I'm fabricating alot of the body so my finished car will probably be worlds different LOL.
