hey, I am wondering as to what you are going to do for paint... Are you going to paint it yourself or get a shop to do it?

I am in a situation I hate, my car is about 50% prepped and no one wants to finish the work, I may have to finish the car and paint it myself...

Yeah man. About 80% of the time after I told people I was going to repaint the Mound they would ask "What color?" Uh, brown, duh. Red Mound just doesn't have that ring. And I have got to say, the color brown really does grow on you and looks good and "classic" on this car.

As for who, the body shop will be painting the car. I'm not doing any of it myself, besides buying $1000 worth of parts (replacing all the seals, glass run channels, grille, valence, and anything else that doesn't look new). It's expensive, but it's worth it.

I just got the windshield molding, drip rails, hatch hinges and door handles powder coated and they turned out awesome! No more flaking paint on those chrome moldings for me!

Right on.

Very sweet! I totally agree that brown looks very classic on this car. If mine ever needs a repaint its getting the same colour again.

Here is a couple of pics of mine... Just thought you might enjoy them! keep up the good work! I want pics when its done!

My car looks about the same as yours right now. It hurts when you literaly take it apart but the fact that it'll all be worth it helps get you through.

Ideas for the interior?:

The carpets in the brown/brown 85 GSL are dark brown, the same as in my light tan/brown 84 GSL, a chocolate color, much darker than tan. Here are some pictures:

The interior is generally in pretty good shape. I'm going to replace the hatch carpet with a custom job from a local upholstery shop. And then dye/paint the faded pieces in the rear hatch. I'll leave the rest of the interior carpet for now. It's not the best, but not too bad.

Still to be done, decide on wheels - refinish stock or aftermarket - and get the windows tinted and A/C fixed. Then more upgrades on the sound, specifically the infamous tailight sub boxes.

Right on.

PS: I'll try and get some pics on the powder coated trim pieces up tomorrow.

PPS: Right on!

Taillight sub boxes? You been listening to too many Texas hookers and their pimps. I just got everything fixed on the stock stereo in the White One, no problems, this is sound you can live with. I'll post a video (record) pretty soon.

Oh yeh, here's some stock wheels, I'd definately go with them.

Just a couple random quick comments...

1. I think that most people that have a brown 7 tend to name it something. I personally call mine the terd-mobile

2. Personally I think those tail light sub boxes are pretty neat. At least they are not huge and noticeable.

3. Rim selection. I have also struggled with this. Do I replace the tread on my se rims or do I go with a whole new rim & tire. I think that when my tread gets low I will switch to a graphite colored rim. Kind of something that resembles the spirit-r rims. mmmm...drool. I really am curious how they would look on a brown car though. Any one photoshop?

Mine's called the Turd, at least she was until a buick got the best of her. Now she's the parts car, but I'd snarf up another brown one in a second if it was in good shape. Z-beater, about rim selection, here's a thought. Has anyone retro-ed an SE with the stock X wheels that define the 1st gen? You'd get the best of both worlds, good looks and cheap tires coupled with SE performance. It would look something like this:

Of course you still wouldn't have a carb.

Ha, yeah I wouldn't. Personally I have never been partial to the x wheels. Plus I want to go a little bigger in size.

Please don't flame me for this...I would like to go with 16 maybe 17's at the largest and I am going to need a little more rubber on the tire as well. So the 13's probably wouldn't work for my setup. I want to go with 245...maybe a little bigger. I still have to think about it.

I really liked the car that had polished x wheels though...they were the most georgeous ones that I have seen in quite some time!

The question is, how thin can you get those tires before they completely dissappear? You can get the 13' stock tires from discounttires.com etc for less than $250. And they work good, ask me how I know. Also, they still look and drive like a 7.

All original

Mike - if you want another set of the stockers to screw around with (paint/polish/whatever) lemme know. My first stack is about to tip over, and I've got a bunch more with **** tires on 'em.

Like I've told anybody that asks about them: "If I wasn't so broke I'd pay you to take them away". I've only gotten rid of one.
