Large streetport 12a

Hey fellas i got a 1983 fb that i just rebuilt and ported it with a pineapple racing large streetport template everything else is stock. I also deleted the rats nest. The car fires up fine but wont idle without the choke pulled out. I have checked for vacuum leaks and messed with the mixture and idle screws and still wont idle without the choke. I need some guidance would anything else cause this like ignition timing?

Are you still using a stock nikki?

You may need to rejet the carb. Assuming it had a carb before the work. A stock nikki won't feed
that well even if you rejet. A modified nikki could easily work with that port along with different
jets.

Yes i am using the stock nikki carb, i guess thats the problem but is it possible for a large streetport engine to idle with a stock nikki carb? At least getting it to idle?

Possibly not without a primary jet change at least. Even then you may have to drill
out the air bleeds as well. Your engine is now pulling a lot more air than before so
thats why you need to richen it up with the choke.

A stock Nikki will let a streetport idle. But don't just drill things out. You need a wideband and you need to hog out the nikki for it to drive correctly on a streetport. Otherwise it won't let enough air and thus fuel into the engine. You also need a free flowing exhaust. If you can't do all that, might as well leave the ports tock. You need to mod your intake manifold too. The stock 81-85 manifolds are terrible. Just don't port match it to the engine because it removes the anti-reversion lip.
