Kill switch for the fuel pump

does anyone know the proper way to install a kill switch for the fuel pump that will automatically turn off if the key is not in the ignition?

Not really good with electrical, so I'm not sure if my engine would get flooded if I one day forget to turn the fuel pump off (or if I'm just idling at a stop with it "on" )

Tried googling and only found this post:

or would the FC guide be exactly the same as for an FB

what is the backstory? it sounds like you or someone else already altered the stock wiring if your pump is staying on without the key.

still stock wiring, but a friend told me that the killswitch will still get power without the key. trying to confirm that bit of info.

not if you wire the switch into the stock circuit. it will only get power under the circumstances that the pump ordinarily would.

do you have a wiring diagram for your car?

I put a kill switch just off of the ignition wiring under the dash. The engine will turn but the fuel pump and ignition are dead. Works great. I think it was the large black wire with either a white or red stripe. It is an SE, if that matters.

I had a 1980 that I put a kill switch near the back bin area. It's really easy to get to the fuel pump wiring in there.

This is how mine is wired in, works like stock with the switch on, tap into the pump wiring under the drivers side bin, this is also a good time to add a relay and new hot lead for the fuel pump.

Could you explain any further about installing a new hot lead and relay please?

I hunted the archives, and for the life of me can't find the exact write up off hand and please forgive the lack of in depth instructions this is from memory. Basically you use the factory wiring to activate a relay, add a new dedicated power and ground wire for the pump, from there you can add in a pump kill switch. If another member would please, elaborate on the finer details of this VERY useful mod. I do hope this helps some and sorry I couldn't do more.

Upclose:

this is where the fuel line is set, should I just run the kill switch from this, off the side of the car to where the back speakers are? anyone know of anyone known water problems/leaks from RX7s? (even small bits of information, like how the water drips off from a wet hatch-glass)
