the first thing that i would check would be the ground wires for the engine then check for any bare wires that could be shorting

Ele fuel pump surging, sensor shorting out, do you have AC, bad alternator? also might wanna check for bare wires shorting out in the engine bay and or loose pos battery terminal. Good luck

Something's shorting to ground. Look around for wires that may be laying against hot engine parts. Look for wire casings that are cracked or hard from the heat. What year/model/options do you have? Overused lazy clich'e ahead..."Study your wiring diagrams". No really. For example I recently spent quite a bit of tears and frustration trying to figure out why the automatic tranny shift solenoids in my ford taurus kept shorting out their fuse when driven hard...inspecting and testing everything. Then I found a wiring diagram showing the fuse also protecting the heated O2 sensors, come to find out the sensor wiring was laying on the rear header. When the wire casing got hot enough it quit insulating and started shorting even though there was no exposed wire. It's not an RX-7, but it just goes to show how easy it is to overlook the simple things.

I had this problem it it was the choke and check relay shorting out. It is one if the relays mounted on the drivers side under the hood near the clutch master.
