Just started my backlit spare well cover

Just designed and cut it out. It will be covered with black carpet fiber, frosted plexi behind the cutouts, and backlit with red LEDs.

Carpeted and cut. Just need to add another light.

Still need to cut the outline from the carpet also. Beer+razorblade probably wouldnt be the best idea

Outline was muddled to much by carpet fibers, decided to keep as is, with a second backlight. Really going to annoy me that the tire well is slightly off center though!

That is very cool and creative. Can you elaborate on the material(s) and process?

sure! I drew the design in Omax, and cut the blank out of 1/8” steel on a water jet. Lined up and cut out the shape from my trunk carpet, and glued it to the front of the plate. I cut the design from the back side with a razor blade, and used hair clippers to clear the strands away from the cut outs. Then I sanded a piece of plexi glass and taped it to the back side to diffuse the light. For the lighting, I got 2 LED trailer tail lights, and wired them in with a switch. Simple as that! Any other questions??
