Just a quick warmup question.
Just a quick warmup question.
Question: how long should I let my 1984 GSL-SE warm up in both this cold weather (ohio winter...don't worry, I just want to know, i don't drive it much at all.) or in the summertime? I can't find anything about it in the manuals.
I dont know if the 12a and 13b are a HUGE difference in warm up styles... Me personally, I let it sit and warm up for atleast a minute before I drive off, to get the "blood" flowing. After that minute, I keep it no more than 2500 rpm until it is completely warm. Had no problems.
It comes down to common sense. Long warmup periods contribute to more carbon buildup due to the richer fuel conditions when cold. High rpms when the oil is still cold and thick can lead to accelerated internal wear.
With the engine in good tune, one can usually start and go, keeping the rpms under 3-4k. In extremely cold weather a bit more warm up time is needed not only for the engine oil but also for the tranny lube so shifting is easier.

i like way trochoid just said. i personally dont let it sit for awhile only because i have a fat oil leak. wat i do is i start the car...let it build oil pressure and just go. i shift at 3-3.5k rpm max till the choke is back in. then i let hell loose.
And for the tranny lube I recommend synthetic to combat that notchy feeling that you get with regular gear oil in cold weather.
My Se's I have always started and went. I check to see that oil pressure is up and then drive it accordingly until it warms up.

I let it sit until the temp needle gets to where its obviously moved, about halfway through the very bottom reading and then go. Its normally 1-2 minutes, but I only do this in the winter when it gets down to -20 at night.
