just got an 85 rx7..help! 1st mod??
oK im new to the rx7 family and just purchased an 85 rx7 with a rebuilt 12a motor (20k miles on new motor) I got tokico shocks and springs plus rx7.com intake. Now what else should i do to get some power out of this baby. Im looking for some cheap mods so i hope some of you rx7 fanatics can teach me some tricks.

Well, to get an increase in power, easiest things you can do are get an exhaust or new carb or let sterling or yaw modify your stock nikki (if your rx7 is not an -SE). These do cost a fairly large sum of molah though...
A few cheap mods you could do are: remove rats nest, convert to mech secondaries (do a search on these words and you'll find tons of answers to your questions). Removing the rats nest simplifies your engine bay and may solve problems associated with vacuum leaks--no power gain from removing it. Converting to mech secondaries allows you to open your secondaries (if you are carb'd) whenever you choose--no power gain, but when used properly you can maximize your powerband.
Do a search on a post called something like: "best bang for the buck mod." This post dealt with what the title suggests
Hope this helped,
FS

Welcome to the forum cableguykj!
An excellent FREE mod is to turn your vacuum actuated secondaries into so called "mechanical secondaries".
The best bang for the buck would probably be a new exhaust system. I, as well as a lotta other guys here have the RacingBeat exhaust but I've heard very good things about the Mindtrain exhaust too... contact http://www.kickyride.com for details on the Mindtrain exhaust.
Good luck with your new RX-7!

Where is a good place to get a new carb for an 85 rx7. i cant find one anywhere. The car has AC and it actually still works (so ill prob leave that one alone) but other than that it has power nothing. I think there is a slight vacum leak in the brakes so ill check into this "vacume" upgrade thing mechanical secondaries i think you said. Have no idea what that means but ill look it up. Any good sites with walkthrough and how tos for 1st gen rx7's?? THanks friend
