Just got '83 GLE, first post

Hi everyone,

I just got my first RX7. I should have it running this week. I'm new to RX7's and it's good to find this forum. I know how to search and won't bother you too much!

Thanks

Welcome Randy Nix,

We are all glad that you joined our loving community. A few things to do while you are here is to check out the "stickies" in each section, the archives, and don’t be afraid to use the search option for some answers.

If you have a question about rotary engines or RX-7's, you've come to the right place. When asking a question, be sure you are asking it in the appropriate forum. (ex. Not everything goes into the Lounge)

I've been a member for a while and have learned that this site is flowing with information, great people, and the owners are always striving to make this a better place for the users. The admins and moderators do not tolerate flaming other people or their property. If you are attempting to undermine the tranquility of the forum, I’m sure appropriate action will be taken.
On a personal note and fair warning: Ignore the people who have a pinecone shoved up their asses. (Basically, don't take everything on here personally.)

Enjoy your stay.

Oh, I just noticed your title for this thread. I just wanted to make sure you knew what model you had or if it was a typo. We all make mistakes.

The '83's came in these versions:
S, GS and GSL.

Wasn't there an '83 Limited Edition too?

Welcome to the forum Randy! There are a couple of other 1st gen owners in TN that are extremely helpful so keep your eye out for them.

Badass's is a custom job. They came stock as all chateu (sp?) silver with red int and sunroof as someone already said. Oh yea, don't forget the awesome 14" wheels, which is really the only reason anyone likes 83 LE's anyway. I have one, that shade of silver is sweet, I'm gonna paint my GS that color someday. Oh yea, welcome to the forum.

I shall quote myself and I stand corrected.

I forgot the LE. It really doesn't count...it was special...and seeing how I don't have one, no one can!

haha, thats the same attitude I have error402. They only made like 5000 of them. Most of teh ones I see are like mine, rotting out and beat to hell. Come to think of it, most FB's i see around here are like that, 2 feet in the ground with plants growing through them oh well.

This sounds like the '83 I am picking up. Exact description and everything! Though I do not think it still has the 14" wheels. Were they still the same + design or a different design? The car has already had the radio swapped out and the rear-end is a GSL rear-end instead. I absolutely love the color and pinstriping too!! Since it is most likely missing the 14" wheels can one tell via the VIN if it is a LE?

Thanks! I apologize for posting a question in someone else's thread.

I gotta agree with ya. I see the same thing around here too. All oxidized paint, and sinking into the surrounding weeds. What gets me is if you ask the owner to sell it to you they usually say no because they are going to rebuild it someday

I would assume that the vin would tell you, but I'm not sure which ones were LE's. maybe someone else does. The wheels are a BBS spoke style wheels. I have some pic of mine before I destroyed it on my site: www.slegers.com/sites/sean Thats pretty cool that yours already has the GSL rear in it. It would be very hard to tell if its a true limited just by looking at it. Try to get some pics of it, I'd like to see it.

Randy, where in TN are you. My bro used to have a red 83 GSL that we mistakenly sold.

I'm in Jackson/Lexington, western Tennessee. This GSL is black with red interior. It's almost the weekend so I'll get a chance to start it. It's dark when I leave work now and I don't have a shop so I can't work on it during the week.
