Some of you may already know that fellow member Cowboyfun lost the motor 2 days ago. Ironically that morning he decided to sell the car because of bigger priorities... That evening the motor died.
So yesterday I get in the truck and drive down South and tow the yellow banana up here to start tearing her down. This morning I pulled the trans, then the motor. Since I did not have a engine hoist and was to lazy to tow the car to a friends house to use the tractor as a forklift, I did it the old fashioned way,lol..
Anyways, I tore the motor apart this afternoon and the pics will show the findings.. As it was failing Ben stated that it made all kinds of noise and lost power. Then they got a compression tester and found good compression in the front at 120, on the 2nd retry on the front it went down to about 40.. then they checked the rear and the zero reading was there. He started it and was moving it when it just locked up.. Services will be held shortly, lol
The bad news is that the rear housing and rotor are toast as the pictures will show.. Oddly enough on the front housing and rotor even though it lost part of a seal there is no damage to the housing.. So 1 housing is in great shape that has already been ported and the front , intermediate and rear irons are in great shape and were ported also. They have about 7-8k on them I believe according to the info Ben got when he bought the motor awhile ago.. The eccentric shaft, oil pump and rest of the components are all in excellent shape so he will putting them up for sale in the appropriate section soon...
I have a old 12a that has been stored for sometime that I am letting soak in seafoam to loosen things up. In a day or so I will do a compression test on her and hopefully all will be well enough to put back in the car. After that he will resume the sale of the car.....

seems like most 2G motors i pull apart look like that.
the 3mm seals usually hold up until they get stuck or springs loose tension.
what kind of air cleaner were you running? suck in a rock perhaps?

Ugh! The dreaded upside down D shaped exhaust ports! They totally suck. Well, they totally blow actually, but not in a good way. If rotarygod sees this thread I'm sure he'll tell you the same.
I swapped rotor housings in my bro's RX-4. The first set had those unsightly D shaped exhaust ports and it never had a lot of power. Then we swapped in some GSL-SE housings ported out to T2 spec and it had a ton more power everywhere in the RPM range. Of course it recieved a different rotating assembly with new seals all around, but the old seals weren't that bad. Interesting contrast though. The side plates, with a mild streetport, were unchanged.
Doctor, you could square up the top area (closing) of the port on the remaining rotor housing and it will perform better. I'll let RG describe intricisies. Don't forget to add a healthy Judget Ito style 45° 2mm bevel.

Why do the upside down exhaust ports suck? I'm planning on getting a rebuild from them getting a streetport. Is that how they do the streetport? I just want a mild streetpot though, so it shouldn't be bad.

twinkletoes, I'd mangle the explanation. Send a PM to rotarygod asking about D ports and why they suck. He's the best qualified to talk about this subject in my opinion (like Carl and port flow, RETed and kouki RX-7s, Sterling and Nikki carbs etc).
