Hi.
I wanted to be a computer guy, but the process of trying to work out why programs wouldn't run made me feel like crying. Frankly, I don't know how anyone can handle the frustration of it.
I'm just finishing a graduate diploma in technical writing instead, and I work in a bookshop.
Bye,

Programming isn't too hard, and the errors aren't as annoying as you may think just time consuming. I Ported a version of ROM 2.4 to a DEC Alpha to start my own mud and a friend and I just ended up staying up all night one night and fixed it all up, only had a few warnings when we where done.

I'm a goldsmith. I design and make custom and limited production silver and gold holloware, boxes, and jewelry. One day I might be sitting on my *** soldering tiny pieces; and the next, I'll be forging out some flatware from an ingot, or raising a vase from a disk of sheet silver.
I cater to the very high end. (Need to be able to do serious quantity to compete in low end, and it just does'nt pay.)
I apprenticed under a master silversmith for 7 years, and I now share the shop with him. We are like water and oil. He is a master at art design, while my expertise lies in the technical and production aspect of the business.
I enjoy my three rx-7s (only one runs right now), redesigning the wheel (carbs), writing, and learning anything about machines and music.
Recently I've aquired an "inventer-wanna-be"s dream; A 42 inch lathe, and an upright milling machine.
When it comes right down to it, I think I enjoy making custom parts for my car as much as I like driving it!

To Mike P 28- it helps to fool us if you can spell your
profession!
However you attempt earns a suitable in joke.
An opthalmic surgeon was retiring after thirty years at a top teaching hospital. As a suitable parting gift the faculty decided to give him a portrait of himself shown in the centre of an eye. At the presentation a medical student audible whispered, its a good job he wasn't a gynacologist.
My profession is a Consulting Epidemiologist, working for various governments on illnesses and treatments to be experienced in ten-twenty years time. In my spare time I fly out to remote hospitals and health centres for a sobering of reality.
My age is 67, but like a good wine I improve with age and as yet I am showing no signs of corkage.
Why do I own an RX7? I hated the uncomfortable leather seats in my last Rolls Royce. I now drive a 1984 red convertible. Recently taking my glamourous 6 foot redhead 20 year old daughter to the airport at the end of the Uni vacation, a Porsche drew alongside at the traffic lights. The driver leant out and shouted I would buy one of these cars if owning it attracted such a cool chick in my old age! My daughter gave him a polite sign as I gunned away from him in a 8000rpm tyre spin!
What better reason for owning a gen 1?

my job
At the "starting to feel old" age of 25, I am working as a Field Service Engineer, keeping those U'Scan's running. U'Scan's are machines at grocery and retail stores that allow you to check-out and bag your own groceries, without interacting with a cashier. I actually used the little Rx-7 to haul around my tools and parts I needed for the job for 4 months before getting a 2nd vehicle (4Runner). I got my BS in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVRY Institute in 1999. I also like to build PC's, but I do more reading about the latest computer parts then I buying them. I'd rather put $ into the Rx.

I'm a 23 year old Mechanical Engineer, currently doing product development for fiber optics..
My eventual career goal is to get back into the auto industry. I've worked for Ford as a Chassis Engineering on the Escape/MAZ Tribute, and for GM as an Engineering intern making body panels for Grand Prix's..
I also made beer for awhile... The perks were good

I'm a Unix Systems administrator at the moment, I've got an empeg in the Rex, and with my tax refund it will get it's own WAP. The car's about to be powered by a diy EFI project I stumbled across called MegaSquirt. I race in SCCA Solo II in my spare time along with building, maintaining and breaking unix networks in my house. Oh, and I irradiate myself with the maximum allowable dosage of ~2.4GHz RF radiation (802.11b wap in the house amped to 100mW output).
Gonna mount my old i-opener somewhere in the car so I can tune the megasquirt w/o a bulky laptop

I am a 20 yr old full time student majoring in Telecommunications and Networking although I will probably change my major to Mechanical engineering in the future. I work at Pep Boys part time and I swear it is the COOLEST job ever even though the pay sucks!

Wow, Now I know why some folks have the time to post so much. I never thought there would be that many of you staring at monitors all day. No wonder your rx7s become so important to you.
I've been an ASE certified Master tech and owned a small sales distributing company and an automotive alarm installation company over the years, but have now settled in as the property manager of a summer kids church camp taking care of 60 horses, 800 acres, 2 dozen buildings, a fleet of basically junker vehicles, pools and waterslide, lake etc. Every day is different and busy so the SE is a wonderful break just the feeling of being in absolute control for a while.
Cheers
