Jeg's Chassis Kit
Anybody here used one of these in any cars before?
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...38&prmenbr=361
As for the FB specific question, they make one for an FC. Since I would be heavily modifying the car to use one of these anyway, does anyone know if the FC kit will be usable as a starting point? I know there will be a lot of cutting and welding involved (neither will be a problem), but I'm going to try and find a premade frame kit that will fit, or can be modified to fit, in the FB. Anybody know any options specifically for the FB?

Just make your own... it'll be almost as much of a pain as cutting and customizing the FC one for an FB...
You're better off finding a FB-specific cage or make your own... I don't know about certification and stuff though...

Yeah, I figured the cage would be a problem with that kit. I know a few people who have built cages for FBs for ITA cars, so that shouldn't be too bad. One of the things I liked about that kit was the frame rails as well, though. Any thoughts on that?

I think it's a lot of extra added weight for not a whole lot of gain. An FB is a pretty strong chassis, and a pretty stiff car to begin with. Ever see AJC13B's car? He runs low 10's on the drag strip with little to no frame flex.
I don't think he has a 12-point roll cage in his car either. I think for the speeds that most of us will be acheiving in RX-7's that a 6-point cage is really all you'll need...
But of course, as always, you'll want to get more than one opinion on this... that's just my 2 bits...

If I was to go through with something like this, it is because I have some potential plans that would probably need it. I'm an engineer, though, so before any work is done, every possibility needs to be researched. Right now, I'm researching "what if" I need to strengthen the chassis. As another "what if", I want it to be legal for all forms of SCCA racing, the possibility of a few trips to the drag strip, and the regular tough love my cars receive from me on a daily basis.

I don't think the rules of the GT class (or any class, since I don't know if that's actually true) say you can't base your car off a first gen RX-7...
The nice thing about the SCCA is there is almost always a class for whatever you want to bring. It may not be fair, but you can still race.

thats a drag race chassis so are you looking to build a drag car or a cornering car?
for drag car at the very most would be a back half and good cage
for cornering use stock chassis
I'm back halfing mine now and going with 4 link setup with 28/10.50/15 drag slicks
2nd gen front sub frame with rack n pinion and big brakes
(not rotary)

Foam filling the chassis involves taping off most holes and filling the fram with a structural foam. Not the foam you would find for the instant insulation setup but a foam that has a catalyst to make the foam 'cure'.
Off the top of my head I cannot think of the link but do a search for structual foam repair and the likes.
