jdm 12a turbo...questions

i have a 12a turbo that i am about to be putting into a 1st gen rx7 gsl. the problems are:

factory harness is cut

have the oem computer but no way to plug into it

do not have a mass air flow sensor

i could go standalone and i also have a s4 turbo rx7 that i could remove the ignition system from it and use the coil packs to upgrade from the distributor. that would help with the ability to adjust the timing. well anyway what are your ideas? and questions...

Thats gettin' a little messy.....

The 12AT used a fuel only EFI system, since there was a distributor like with the GSL-SE.If you used FC coils and CAS,youd need the FC computor hooked up and operating normally in order to time and fire the sparkplugs.Unfortunately, theres not really any way to do that since the FC ECU is designed to operate 4 staged fuel injectors and its air metering gear is calibrated for the flow rates of a 13B.Not saying you couldnt hodge-podge it together, but youd be striking out into unknown, dangerous territory and turbo rotaries are fragile enough when things are working right, let alone some unknown control system that your piecing together.

A cut harness and no ECU gangplugs is bad news, maybe you can hit up some importers or performance shops that might be able to get you a complete, unmolested harness, that way itll be plug and play. The same person could probably find you a 12AT AFM as well. That way everything will be correctly calibrated for the 12AT engine, and you can run it without worry......either that or go full standalone and forget the whole scavenger hunt mess for the stock parts.

sorry that looks different then what i was trying to say.... i dont want to hack the engine into the car but want to do a very nice install that will be very clean and well running. i was saying that the fc system is an upgrade and to use that would be on a standalone system, as explained on www.hitman.hm/12at-hints.htm

A standalone ECU would allow you to use the FC coil packs and the CAS, instead of the 12AT distributor.

It would also eliminate the need for the stock 12AT computor,AFM and all the other factory EFI/smog junk......by far the cleanest, simplest way to go.
Not the cheapest setup however,it will never be smog legal and it will require tuning and dyno time to get it right.
Personally,I like stock EFI systems because they are ready to run,pre-tuned right out of the box. But,thats to be expected since I live in a smog controlled state and street cars with full standalone EFI systems are rare to see around here.

i dont have smog problems here they only check for cats and think presilencers are cats... i do have the problem of finding the rest of the 12at parts to make it run. if i had the plugs that go into the computer's (it has 2 side by side) then i could use the wire diagrams and the other half of the harness to build it back, or if i could find a complete harness then i could go that route

i dont feel as money is to bad of an issue. not saying i can just buy a full motech system but i was considering a nice microtech system with a turbo timer, dash kit, and hand controler. if thats the route i should go. i have the desire to do it right and dont want to cut corners and cheap out on this project i want to have a clean car that is fun to drive.

You could also get a fuel only computer, I currently run a micro LT4 w/ a 12at dist. I put down 230whp on 7lbs on a S5 TII, stock ports and turbo.

After owning a microtech, i would reccomend a haltech. Just for the fact that no one in the area likes tuning my micro. I've also heard that the haltech is very easy to tune for a novice. Which would be nice to be able to fine tune those little stumbles that only happen when you drive the car everyday. I've been looking at buying the f10x the software looks so much easier to use.

but for haltech i would have to keep my laptop in car to adjust it correct?
and microtech i could use the controler to change programs correct? and i am willing to take the time to learn how to set it up correctly.

I use the laptop software for the micro, ive heard its easier this way. I dont know how true that is, i dont have a hand controler so never tried to tune this way.
