Japanese sa22c with renesis

I scanned this from last months Option2. Very sweet car, they even swapped the gague cluster and radio from an rx8.

I may be mistaken, but isnt that an FB rather than an SA22C? I was under the impression that the SA's had the ugly *** rear end, unless they swapped for a FB rear bumper as well? pretty sweet.. it should be a single turbo 400hp machine

All japanese 1st gen's are refered to as sa22c. If I'm not mistaken, america was the only market where the s2 and s3 cars are referred to as fb's

Not only do they have the motor swapped but also the electric power steering, AC, the fly by wire throttle, gauge panel, A/C and fan control, radio, the transmission, and the push button starter are from the RX-8. Its got FD calipers on FC rotors with 16 inch watanabe 8 spoke rims. Car comes with Ohlins coilovers, vitaloni mirrors, and datsun 240z over fenders. On top of that it complies with Japan's low emission vehicle standards.

That's true for many cars actually... under heavy loads the ECU can command the A/C compressor to disengage, and even shut off power to the alternator's field windings.

That might not seem like much, but if the alternator is generating 100 amps (say you have the lights and wipers and everything on) then at 14 volts that is 1400 watts, or nearly 2 hp assuming the alternator is 100% efficient. If you only have 90-100hp every little bit counts. If you have 200hp it still accounts for at least 1% of your power output (I have no data on efficiency for alternators or the belt drive so i cannot be more specific)

anybody seen an article on what is involved to put the renesis in the fb in english? I was thinking that would be a nice project whenever my stock engine dies.

Yeah your absolutely correct on that one. The one thing different about the 8 than most other cars is it uses the CAN network to connect everything, rather than the slow data busses that everyone else seems to be stuck using.

In all countries except America, the 1st-gen was an SA RX-7. However, for the USA market, the series-2 (81-83) & series-3 (84-85) was called an FB RX-7.

god I love japan. The attention to detail on that car is amazing. I wonder what kind of rear end it has.

Probably the stock Mazda 7".

Isn't that what the RX-8 uses anyway?

The S2000 uses it, at any rate. (Yes the Mazda diff)

Oops I forgot to mention that the article says that the suspension is still Original except for the fact that it uses coilovers and FC/FD brake components.
