jacobs rotary fc-1000 ignition system
does anyone have any experience with this system? they offer it at rx7.com and they say its good, but i just dont hear a lot of people talkinga bout it. everyone seems to go with MSD.
Way overpriced for what it does. The idea that a spark is tuned by an ignition box specifically for a rotary-only application is a bit dubious. How the heck are they going to make any money off of that? Oh right, the whole price thing.
I mean c'mon, you can build a decent ignition system for the cost of one extra ignitor and coil, for next to nothing at a wrecking yard (or for free if you have big pockets), and a few small female quick disconnects and an aluminum sheet (1/8" thick) with a little wiring. That's DLIDFIS.
Or if you want to build an even easier to set up system, just grab one 2nd gen leading coil and hook it to your existing leading ignitor (don't forget to keep the ballast resistor in the circuit). That's 2GCDFIS (the 20 minute direct fire alternative to DLIDFIS).
Since both systems are based on the stock J-109 ignitor, they're both good for up to 10k RPM (or at least DLDIFIS is; I'm not sure about 2GCDFIS, but I could find out).

I know there are seven letters, and it can be difficult for most people to remember that many, but phone numbes used to consist of seven numbers (now they're up to what, like 10 or 11?) and people never had a problem remembering them. Just realise one thing; if you try to perform a search without entering all the letters correctly and in the correct order, your results will be far less accurate than if you'd typed DLIDFIS.
This is not directed toward you specifically—it's for anyone trying to learn more about it, and all the dflis sdlflsf I see from time to time is a little discouraging.
