Its alive!! But....

The car is running, and moving under its own power! So it was the pilot bearing that was the problem. However the clutch feels pretty soft. Is this normal for a new clutch? I bled the system using the hose/jar method and it works fine and doesn't feel spongy, just feels softer than before. Do I need to adjust it?

BTW THANK YOU RX7CLUB for all your help. You guys rock.

if its a different pressure plate than before then yes.. There is no adjusting a hydraulic clutch either.

You can adjust the length of the piston rod on the back of the pedal, but not the firmness of the system.

different pressure plates will have different feels to them. some fingers and springs are stiffer than others.

Ok that makes sense thanks. I know this might seem like a REALLY stupid question, but which direction does the slave cylinder pushrod face? I had it with the thin end on the clutch fork, but after driving a little, it went through the hole in the fork. So I turned it around, and all is well so far.

ALSO, in the bottom of the bellhousing, there is a rubber plug or seal that fits in a somewhat large hole. I guess I wasn't paying attention before I dropped the car, and the plug was not flush and I think the flywheel has torn it apart now. What does the plug do, and how vital is it? I can't find any information about it anywhere.

the pushrod faces with the "breast looking" end resting in the dish on the clutch fork. only should go together one way..the cylindrical end should rest on the slave cylinder's piston.

the rubber plug is a flywheel inspection plug. not too vital but i would get another so water, dirt, and road crud does not enter the bellhousing..

Ok that's the way I have it, thanks. Would you believe I drove 8 miles with it facing the other direction? Not very much fun when your clutch pedal goes to the floor in the middle of an intersection of a 6 lane road.

I'm going to duct tape the inspection plug hole for the time being.
