Its Alive!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I got the 7 to start tonight. It is the first time it has started in over a year. It blew some smoke for a little bit but I knew that it would do that. The only things is that when it warmed up it had trouble with the idle. I played with the idle srew a little and it is a bit better. Then I took it out for a drive and it was running good. Then it just started for fall on its face. The rmps were staying good but no go. I have no idea what is causing that but I will find out.

Anything that you guys thing that I should try? Or do it since it runs now.

O yeah the idea at warm up is smooth.

Hmmm, some suggestions;

Drain the fuel and get clean gas in there.
New fuel filter.
Check ignition timing, and make sure you still have your lead ignition working.
New plugs, cap and rotor.

That should eliminate a lot of the potential issues, and its stuff that you will want to get done anyway even if it was running good....

The gas is new and same with the pugs. I know that it needs a new cap and rotor.

When my fuel filter demands to be changed, the engine dies while going up hills. The immediate fix is to pull off to the side, leave the ignition on for about 15 seconds and restart. Bad gas? That was apparent about 1 mile from the Chevron gas station, engine stumbled. Chevron had a "controversy" in 1992ish in southern california.

I might have to second the gas/filter. When I got my GSL it had been sitting over a year. I drained the old gas and put a new filter on when I swapped the motor. I got a couple miles down the road and it went to sputtering and died. Come to find out eventhough I drained the tank I was still not able get all of the old gas out that had coagulated causing my filter to clog. I went through 3 filters before finally just swapping tanks.

I just got my 7 runnin and it had been sitting for 12 years!! I replaced the fuel tank, pump, filter, new plugs and starter and it runs!! It is a great feeling to get one of these things fired up after a long time of sittin. The only problem now is the clutch wont disengage. It goes to the floor and stays down. Any suggestions?

Rebuild the master and slave cylinder on the clutch hydraulics. If the pedal does not spring back you are losing fluid somewhere. If the level on the resevior goes up when you push the pedal, than the master needs to be rebuilt. If the level keeps getting lower it's probably going out through the slave. It is just easier to rebuild both while you are covered in fluid.

I think the great demi god Mazda is very happy with us lately. . . . so many of us getting our cars started after long sit downs!

Mine got started STRONG for the first time this last week after sitting. . . . . oh, three years? It last ran in 2000 I believe. I had it sort of running for about two months, and now, after lots of help and advice, it's running just as strong as my daily driver (I'm ignoring the sub-par compression on the front rotor and the 900 RPM idle).

'Tis a good time for first gens.
