Talking It's ALIVE!!!

I'm so excited right now. I just started my car. I have absolutely no idea how long it has been sitting, but if I pour a little gas in the secondary barrels, it starts right up.

I have a question. The car doesn't start without pouring a little gas into the carb first. When I press the gas pedal, a little squirt of gas goes into the carb, but doesn't start. If I pour a little gas into the secondary barrels, it starts up with little cranking. For it to stay running, you have to keep the car pretty much floored, just let off enought to keep it from redline. What can cause this??

IMO, the car is loud, but it sounds so good. Needed earplugs though. It was in a small two car garage running at 6-7000 rpm.

PS: that is in 10 degree celcius weather.

since he has to put gas to get it to start, thats a sign the acc. pump isn't working,or clogged, and since it wont run below 8K the primaries sound clogged too

Well considering he has to pour gas in the secondaries, I would say there is definatly something wrong with the primaries, which would also explain why it wont run at low RPMs...It probably needs a rebuild or a good cleaning or something.

I was thinking the primarys were clogged too. I think I will just rebuild the carb and go from there.

Should have mentioned that it was running for 3-5 minutes. For the last 30 seconds before we shut it down, it was running at 3K rpm. but that was with holding the gas pedal down. It wasn't to the floor, but just enough to hold the rpm. There was SO much unburned fuel in the engine and air that my eyes were getting irritated in the car.

Like I said before, when you press the pedal to the floor with the ignition off, there is a little sqirt of gas in the carb. This I think is supposed to prime the engine. It just didn't seem to be enough.
